What an epic trailer. *SPOILER!!*

Apparently, Merle becomes a good guy in TV series joining forces with Rick's group rather than being a douchebag lol taking down the Governor and is against 'im.

yeh, think i'll leave this one for a massive steam sale at some point in the future when its going for pittance.

And it might just be the fact she's on a phone/radio, but was that Womans voice in the trailer the same as Clementine's mothers?

I feel a bit jealous they got good animations for the zombies. I wish nmirh had just a few good more character animators on board. :(

It does look pretty good. @ 24:00 just like the show. shooting the gun attracted tons of zombies.

More like, he picked up the keys and it triggered the zombies to spawn in, but it still looks good to play

Eghhh, still looks like Steam sale material, especially if it's full AAA price.

If only there'd been leaked alpha footage of Aliens: colonial marines that showed how terrible it was, maybe the backlash would've made them produce a better game.

Also, if you want something with good first person combat, play the condemned series..

Well, some reviews came out for the game

----

I played through it myself for a few hours, it's essentially a budget PC port of a console game rushed out to the market; I liked the sound design and I did have some memorable moments where I got spotted by a bunch of zombies, and ran into some building and closed the doors to slow their advance, but overall it's pretty bleh. The visuals are subpar (oh my god the FOV is so narrow lol), the PC port's performance isn't as good as it should be, there's really no color in the game visually (it's mostly covered by a yellowish tint in the style of the TV show), the melee combat's pretty bad (at first i thought it was good, and then I realized that your melee attacks will always stagger the zombie back, creating no resistance + they take a long time to kill) and the zombies themselves aren't that dangerous (they are really easy to fight in close quarters, and aren't that aggressive)

It's probably silly to compare a commercial game to a fan made mod, but when I went to test out the NMRiH Steam build after a few hours of WD:SI, and I was surprised at how better the mod was in the following categories lol:

  1. Zombies: Survival Instinct's zombies are really slow and dumb, and are easy to kill in combat. They seldom try to grab you at all, and the only time they do is when they get the jump on you (which is really really really rare) or if you're at low health (more on that later) There's only one kind of zombie, and they all use the same walking animation when they're trying to get to you. Our zombies are generally highly aggressive and are dangerous to face down close up if you aren't careful (they love to grab you). And, even though the quality may vary, we have at least 9 walking animations + we have running and children zombies.
  2. Combat: This part surprised me, SI's melee combat is so tedious when you figure out that your melee attacks will always knock them off balance, leaving them helpless to you. There's no way to quickly kill them. Quick attacks take 5 or more swings to the head, charged attacks take at least 3 or less regardless of how long you hold down the weapon, and you can't prepare the charge in advance too (you'll just swing). You also have to aim dead center on the head or you'll miss. If you get grabbed, you enter a QTE where you have to put the crosshair on the zombie's head and stab it in the head before it kills you. It was cool until I realized I can run into a horde and trigger that QTE over and over until all the zombies were dead. Firearms are totally fine though, they're all satisfying to use. In NMRiH's case, depending on the melee weapon and what attack you use, you'll have a small chance at knocking a zombie back. And, they're all guaranteed to give a single headshot kill if you hold down your fire button to charge the attack (some take longer than others). It's also a lot more risky to enter melee combat since our zombies are hyper aggressive up close (especially with infected bites) but more rewarding imo. I know the hit detection can be off at times (you have to hit dead center on a hitbox or else you'll miss your swing) but in Beta 1.07 we fixed that to allow for the player to simply swing his or her weapon and if the zombie happens to be caught relative in the swing, it'll receive damage. Firearms in NMRiH are just as satisfying, though some of them sound weak.
  3. Visuals: SI may have an actual studio but I thought our mod looked better, mainly because it looked more 'clean and crisp' visually and the lighting wasn't a murky yellow. Also, SI's FOV is extremely narrow in comparison to ours. Level art is hit or miss, mostly a miss in their case (you can tell it was a rush job to get the game out ASAP)
  4. Sound: SI has an edge here, all the guns sound pretty powerful and melee impact sounds are satisfying to hear, but everything else (music, ambient sounds, etc.) sounded a lot better in our mod (granted half of it is HL2 content  )
  5. Replayability: Even though SI has a novel attempt for single player (the oregon trail/car map thing), ultimately it's around 5 hours and once you're done you're done. No multiplayer too. In our case you can play alone or with other people, and we tried to mix things up with randomized objectives and zombie spawns

If you look at the game as a budget title it's decent but badly priced ($49.99 when it's more of a $10-$15 game). It's basically like Road to Fiddler's Green, where both titles were rushed low budget licensed games selling at full retail price that are 'decent' to play but not worth the $49-$59. Rent, or get this game when it goes on sale :)

NMRIH?

I don't think you can really compare the two (other than they have Zombies and some focus on melee) as much as people like to pigeon-hole stuff they're very different. Other than some slightly higher production quality in some area's, I don't think you have that much to worry about.

Also, I wish they'd make Condemned 3 already.

While they'll probably patch it up and stuff, just looking at these video's makes me wonder how much worse the game would have been had those video's not come out and they'd just carried on in the direction they were going.

I'll give that game one thing , the zombies do look distributing up close, they truly do look like animated dead bodies . I'm surprised in 2013 games are still having problems with AI's pathfinding, I keep seeing this over and over its starting to piss me off. lol the game business has come so far with graphics, but the AIs and such are still at retard levels like they were in year 2000, no improvements at all.

Played a few good hours in the game and also doing a lets play of it myself, hopefully will be uploading it at some point. In other notes, SI is not a bad game like some reviewers are making it out to be, but it's not a great title either.

For a budget title on a limited time frame they did fairly well, the animations are not too bad but I agree the AI pathfinding would need some work, as well as the group interaction. It's easy to point the flaws of the game, but I think I'll share what positives I could give.

  1. It's the Walking Dead - The most important positive, it's based off the Walking Dead, so it's popular for the Fans and gives some backstory. SI is somewhat of a prequel to how the Dixon brothers met up so thats a plus. The game might not enthrall the attention of some casual gamers but it'd would certainly appeal to fans of the franchise.
  2. The action is somewhat right - I know if I was in a Zombie Apocalypse I wouldn't be firing off my guns left right and centre and consuming restorative items every 5 minutes. The Zombies are relentless, they are maybe slow and dumb and while you can usually out run them or handle one or two, a group won't be too far behind. There were a few moments where I did fire a gun, run around thinking I lost them only a few minutes later after searching a house, did I find a massive horde outside on the front porch.
  3. Micro management - For those who like inventory management of supplies, think of SI as an entry level Micro management game, it's not as massive in scope like Day Z's management system but it's still there, you'll need to manage weapons, food, ammo, fuel and other survivors that join your group, assess the risk they bring and send them out to gather supplies
  4. It has moments of tension - Like above with the horde, they are moments of tension, of something your not familiar with or something that just feels off. For example, taking a backroad travel plan and ending up on an empty diner made me feel nervous throughout, as I kept seeing bodies but not knowing whether they were "alive" or truly dead
  5. Melee Weapons feel interesting - It's hard to pin point an exact feel, but the sounds and general combat in the game feel somewhat solid. I went in expecting exgerated melee weapons that would kill in a single hit to the head but they don't unless you perform a excution kill from behind. Imagine trying to kill something that is already dead, it does not feel pain or suffer fatigue so it doesn't recoil back as much as what a human would. Granted it'd be nice if some of the larger two handed weapons (like the Baseball bat) could knock them to floor but its not something I consider game breaking.
  6. Guns are dangerous - Like the walking dead, firing a gun is sometimes suicide. Your ringing the dinner bell, I like that. Makes it seem that guns for once are truly loud weapons that can be heard from a fair distance away.

It's not a budget title, though. They're charging $50 for it.

And even if it was $10, it would still be bad.

i still think it'd be funny if we added a daryl model to nmrih...if they say anything we can tell them we didn't mind them taking our game and charging $50 for it, we're nonprofit bra, where's the love?

I cannot believe this isn't an XBLA/PSN title but a full priced AAA one.

Even if it was say a $15-$25 live/PSN title it'd be bad enough, but at the price it's going for it's a piss take. Have the staff in game shops also been instructed to spit in the faces of anyone who purchases it aswell.
