noobs make me depressed

21 posts in this topic

Hello there

Now no offence to any other "noobs" to NMRIH but when the other 7 people are all wasting supplies on wave 1 and thinking that there is infinite ammo it just turns this great game into a pastime of going through all the severs and eventually finding some experienced players. I try telling them to melee, not waste ammo etc but instead they decide to throw a grenade down and kill all the survivors.

I dont expect everyone to read this to care but I just want to enjoy a good game but people who empty a whole MP5K mag into thin air just ruin everyting

The real thing that depresses me is that 75% of the servers are infinite ammo servers.

It especially hurts since a lot of new players have been shuffling in recently.

I really find that infinite ammo takes away from (what I see as) the whole point of this game/mod. It is a survival horror. It's meant to provide the player with an experience. The player is to be thrown into a disaster/ survival situation. Something key to this experience is having to assess what materials/supplies are available and to use them as effectively as possible. One has to make those few rounds of ammo count (aim for the head!) and sometimes, one has to run rather than fight as a part of self-preservation. "Teamwork is key", and "adapt and overcome" are two things to be taken away from this experience.

Having an arsenal and bucket loads of cartridges removes a huge portion of the game. As a team member, one does not have to search for and bring back supplies for the good of the group. Supply drops mean nothing, and the feeling of working together to survive by the skin of your teeth doesn't occur. Everyone becomes the terminator and rather than covering each other and desperately trying to scrounge together supplies and replace barricades, it just becomes a *mouse click click click click click, "yeah my score is so high" fest. There's no need to work together, there is no struggle to survive, and zombies aren't scary. It gets boring very quickly. As far as I'm concerned you might as well be sitting there popping sheets of bubble wrap with a rolling pin.

The makers of NMRiH have put a lot of effort into having a lot of detail and replicating real-world considerations. They obviously either know about firearms or did their research. Real ammo doesn't come labelled "ak47 ammo" and pre-loaded in magazines, and there are a variety of calibres and types of ammunition. They even used common real-world brands for the boxes (funnily enough, the same as I buy. Devs are as cheap as me). Been bitten? You're more than likely infected. No magical immunity in this game. I'm sure more features and tweaks will be added as the mod is developed further. I just feel it is a huge shame to put all of this hard work on the part of the devs to waste by not experiencing the full game and simply using it as a "click to see zombie death animation" engine.

Rant concluded.

As far as I know the game's been going downhill since infinite ammo servers made their way in.

It really destroys the whole point of the mod.

Agreed, I really despise these servers... it just trains new players how to waste ammo.

Ughhhh, trying to tell noobs not to waste ammo.

"Don't waste shots on lone zombies, we'll need the ammo for harder waves."

"so? fuck you"

"You should use your melee weapon more."

"no melee sucks"

"Save your ammo for runners and tight situations"

"thats stupid"

Yeah, and sometimes you might get shot if you try to help someone.

And there are assholes that kill you if you pick up a gun, even if it is unloaded, too.

Inf. ammo servers should be banned. This isn't a sandbox "fuck all the zombies you can" mod, this is a "survive and try to fuck without getting torn appart by zombies and little cute but murderous children" mod.

Yea, it's really embarrassing. Have you ever tried to get all 8 players up the stairs in Chinatown at the start, right after you take the board off the door? It just doesn't happen, usually 18 bullets will be fired, 12 of which will be misses, three people will be bitten, and two people will be killed on average. It's just a clusterfuck. I don't understand why people can't grasp the concept of NOT engaging in a fight with everything they see.

It's a trend, it would seem. Obviously there is the Modern Warfare mindset but also, remember Resident Evil 1-3 and how they were SURVIVAL horrors? Running through the streets of Raccoon city with just a few rounds for your gun, you quickly learned and attempted to avoid wasting ammo. I recently played Resident Evil 5.....what...what happened? You're suddenly Mr. Superhuman with a bounty of weapons and ammunition everywhere you look. Zombies, as the phenomenon has become more and more mainstream, has become less about the disaster reaction/ survival aspect and more about "oh cool it involves zombies" and then just being about mowing them down.

No joke. I agree. I'm not a fan. Although, the reason a lot of servers are taking this is because it draws in players. That's the way gaming is heading these days. That's also why 'fun' maps are played more than realistic ones.

Personally I find normal NMRiH realistic AND fun...

Although there is a rather large amount of games that lean more towards fun though.

But I don't get it. Isn't having some sort of challenge what makes a game fun? I get bored pretty easily when something is a mindless cakewalk.

I find NMRIH a cakewalk lol. I hope to see a difficulty option sometime or something, I can finish maps almost every single time.

I rarely find an infinite ammo server, but there are certainly days that a run through Broadway while mowing down zombies can be a nice change in pace vs having to use melee and conserve ammo.

Also, I find it highly amusing that so many "good" players take off and leave most of the team behind to fend for themselves, sometimes confused and uncertain where to go. This game isn't just about saving ammo and collection supplies; it's about TEAMWORK. Otherwise, it'd just be a Single Player game. While maybe "noobs" maybe wind up dying at first, some of them grow to be better players that end up getting that one zombie that's about to munch on your neck.

I remember starting NMRiH and having no idea what I was supposed to do. I wasn't aware of the compass, and I ended up just wandering around Broadway until I finally died. Most players didn't have the patience to help me figure anything out; it's that "Ew, noob" sentiment that almost drove me away. I've taken that experience and have tried to make the effort to teach players about maps and how to play when they are new; heck, one of them is one of my regular compadres when I play the game.

Besides, who needs guns? If you think infinite ammo is waste, try just avoiding guns altogether? A good melee weapon like a 'chete and a tendency to dodge and push is all you need. I've found the utter rage of having people waste ammo goes away when you stop caring about them in the first place. Waste ammo? Joke's on you. I got a fire ax that works way better.

Besides, I suck at aiming. xD

All it takes is to get to the end and end up losing because you left half your team behind to realize that going lone wolf isn't such a good idea...

Edit: Besides, I'm not trying to flame. I grow tired of players that won't listen to suggestions and jeopardize the rest of the time by blocking off doorways, get behind you when you're trying to back away from zombies, or open the attic door/ gate door/ some other entryway and make life nightmarish for everyone. It's less that they are new so much as the aforementioned "Modern Warfare" mentality that creates this... one-man-army thought process. It's not just in new players, either. >.>
