The War Z

It's a game you have to play with friends, otherwise it is really not that fun. I didn't watch the Bore Z video, but I am sure it is TotalBiscuit complaining about texture quality and bugs. I'm pretty sure this is in beta still as it was only released a couple months ago. I'm sure TB is probably playing by himself, which makes the experience miserable. Before I played, I thought this game was gonna be a scam and be utter shit. But it turned out to be pretty fun with friends, obviously needing some balance fixes and bug fixes, but it was fun. So I went ahead and bought it.

It is basically Day Z, just better graphics in my opinion, better animations, less stuff as of right now because of beta. I'm not saying this is that great of a game, but it is not as bad as to what TB and others make it out to be. It is virtually the exact same as Day Z. So when Day Z, the game your gonna have to buy comes out, don't think it is going to be anything too great.

http://www.rockpapershotgun.com/2012/12/19/the-war-z-apologises-after-misleading-steam-customers/#more-135980

The ever-pondersome The War Z has managed yet another controversy, yesterday being forced to apologise to Steam users after advertising features the game simply doesn’t have. Or as Hammerpoint Interactive put it, what was “imagined” by those who “misread” the Steam page.

We’ve taken steps to correct this and format information presented on our Steam Store page in a way so it provides more clear information about game features that are present in the Foundation Release and what to expect in the coming weeks.

We also want to extend our apologies to all players who misread infromation about game features.

I’m sure there’ll be people who will look into small details and will say “no I was mislead,” where in fact they imagined something to themselves without checking details first.

I generally just don't like the way the company conduct themselves (having read their forums a while ago, and now this).

They sound like snake-Oil salesmen, and I wouldn't be suprised if they just abandoned the game before implementing everything and making it a finished product.

Literally any game is fun if you play it with friends. It's a bad game and you should feel bad for paying them.

I wouldn't say every game. It's not that bad of a game, it really isn't. I don't feel bad for paying for it because I have had fun playing it.

I wasn't going to play the game until I played it for free. I played it, really liked it, and bought it for cheap. Better than most of the shitty games you buy on sale all the time.

Seems like a good move, if you let them get away with shit like that they will continue to act that way and others may also think it's okay to operate in a similar fashion.

Valve’s Doug Lombardi responds to our asking why the game is no longer on sale saying,

“From time to time a mistake can be made and one was made by prematurely issuing a copy of War Z for sale via Steam. We apologize for this and have temporary removed the sale offering of the title until we have time to work with the developer and have confidence in a new build. Those who purchase the game and wish to continue playing it via Steam may do so. Those who purchased the title via Steam and are unhappy with what they received may seek a refund by creating a ticket at
.

Again, we apologize any inconvenience.”

He then went on to add "Those of you who purchased Towns, however, are still fucked."

Oh, Bucky. Trying to rationalize your bad choices. You're just in denial, you'll come around!

I can't believe this tit Titov has the nerve to fucking say that their customers misread information on their Steam page. I could stab him to death like it was a normal day for me. Of all the greedy fuckers in the gaming industry, this guy is taking the top spot. The fact that he blatantly stole an idea, blatantly stole the exact release model and name of it "Foundation Release" from Dean Hall is too much. Rhino Crunch, bless that man, was 100% right.

Before today, I didn't realize all the shit the one dude had done. I can understand why people are mad with the game considering he was calling it a foundation release and not a beta. As for the game, it is not as big as trash as some people make it out to be. There are some outstanding things that need to be fixed but I was giving it leeway because I figured it was early beta. I just think it is going to be funny when Day Z comes around to release and their game is gonna be utter shit too. Maybe I just despise Day Z, but I just don't see it being much of a better game than War Z. War Z really isn't utter shit though, but the shit the lead made was terrible.

DayZ isn't the best game in the world, but I'm sorry the FREE MOD was 100x better than WarZ. That you paid for, and then got shit on for buying it. And banned for complaining. And told that its all your fault. Yeah...

Dean Hall is laughing and so am I.

I just read this article: http://kotaku.com/5969784/the-war-z-mess-every-crazy-detail-we-know-so-far

Apparently the actual gameplay space of the map is roughly 10 square kilometers. Not nearly 75 let alone 100-400 like they claim(ed).

If anyone else is still denying this game is a scam then...I'm so sorry.

Before the Steam thing if The War Z came out first you would ALL support it and bash DayZ when that came out later. Don't say no because it's true you would support. Which ever is first that's how it's defended usually. Like MOH came out WAY before COD. I'll still support The War Z till I'm randomly banned or my money is given back or whatever the end turns out to be.

Even then, DayZ would still garner more support since:

  1. None of us ever heard of Hammerpoint Interactive and the only 'real game' they made was some F2P MMO with a boatload of microtransactions
  2. Did I mention microtransactions in War Z
  3. Bohemia Interactive is fairly well known in the PC gaming community and their games are generally pretty fun to play after getting a ton of patches :P
  4. Adding to that, they proved and have proven that they can deliver on immersive emergent gameplay; whilst WarZ can be pretty much boiled down to "I killed a zombie/shot a survivor and died from a zombie/got shot by a survivor", DayZ (and other ArmA2 based mods) is extremely unpredictable (I still get hilarious moments in ArmA2 since its release in 2009)

Also I don't see the point of mentioning MoH and CoD, yes MoH came out first but overtime its quality stagnated (which was a shame since MoH:AA is one of my favorite personal games) while the CoD franchise managed to stay consistent throughout its existance

----

All in all, most of us don't really care to involve ourselves in silly battles between which game is better or not, we just choose the games that play well that also doesn't deceive its user base with doctored screenshots and non existent features and right now WarZ is taking the flak that it deserves :P

If DayZ came out and was as much of a blatant rip off money grab as The War Z is, then yes, that would definitely be the case.

WarZ seemed like it had potential but slowly down the line it just got worse and worse. Without a doubt it was a waste of money but it's also $30 so I can't really complain as it probably would've been stolen from me on our local train or something. Though it was fun the first few days what with beating people to death with flashlights. It'd be interesting to see how DayZ Standalone goes but as far as I know it's still on the ArmA 2 engine which means it'll probably run like trash and it's starting out with only one level [but that isn't so bad when it's Chernarus, I liked Chernarus.]

And Zombie_Expert, we [as in people showing support in WarZ] tried to support competition and hopefully a better product, though I forgot if I did bash DayZ, I didn't really have a reason to other than the apparently repetitiveness [that all games show after a while] and KoS nature some servers have become. Clearly this wasn't the case as the devs were very, very unprofessional and actually lying assholes to the very people that supported them. DayZ isn't really that bad if you don't play it too seriously thanks to the hackers, but what other game exists in the world where a hacker can turn you into a chicken, teleport all of you to an island and give everyone a rocket launcher? It's hilarious but depressing at the same time because you lose your gear [mostly hilarious].

I doubt that WarZ will turn out to be a good product in the end.

That's like saying that if it were cool water that splashed on your skin instead of boiling water then it wouldn't have hurt. lol
