Except the government and everyone puts it as $1. Guess like, 3/4 of Canada, US and Australia are idiots.

As I've understood it, it's for security, so that no one can add extra digits to the front of the number. That's also why on cheques you have to write the amount out in words and also add a decimal for the cents, even if there are none. "$50.00" can't be altered, it will always be fifty dollars... unless someone scribbles the 5 into an 8. ;)

Prior to the mid 17th century though, you'll see the Pound Sterling sign written after the number as one would speak. "3 li. 5 s. 3 d." for "three pounds (librae), five shillings (solidi), and three pence (denarii)."

I always type 4$ because I used to forget to even put the $ and I'm working my way forward.

i don't really care how anyone says anything so long as i know what they mean. if the general idea is transferred then the communication was successful.

"Their" can be used in the singular when a gender is not known or best left unspecified.

I know joe, and I agree, it just bugs me how the order you spell it is not the same order as how you say it.

Except the government and everyone puts it as $1. Guess like, 3/4 of Canada, US and Australia are idiots.

How to miss the point, featuring Sydni. No one pronounces it "dollar one" when you speak it aloud, you say "one dollar", hence it should also be spelled 1$ and not $1.

As for the thing about checks, I guess that makes sense but isn't most check fraud from forged checks then modified ones anyways?

why do spanish individuals put punctuation upside down at the beginning of a sentence and right side up at the end? why do some languages preface a noun with an adjective and others put the adjective after the noun? why do some languages have feminine and masculine versions of the same word? life's lil mysteries.

They do that for spanish to give heads up that it will be a question. Have you ever had problems reading out loud because you don't know what the sentence is saying until you get to the end of it or think about it? There ya go!

As for $1 and 1$, I once thought the same as Ghettobarney is, until I accepted it as "Dollars: 1"

So... Dollars: 12

Dollars: 2

and so forth.

So I basically had to make my own logic out of it.
