Adrenaline shot

25 posts in this topic

We all know about the problem about the Objective mode saying that there should be a health pack that can be used to heal yourself, or another player that desperally needs it, but this was a small idea that came up to me.

Around each map could be an adrenaline shot, in which case, when injected, you gain a speed boost and your health is temporarily raised for a short amount of time. Sort of how L4D2's adrenaline shot works, but if found multiple times and an overdose has been injected, the player can get somewhat blurry vision, and have withdrawal symptoms (such as health loss, and capable of sudden death). So that way, if all the health packs are taken, you still have hope.

Sounds interesting but one of the admins needs to delete your second thread...

My soldier gamemode thread?

No.

You made two of these threads by accident...an admin already deleted it.

I would rather see something closer to a prescription pill bottle with effects like that... because how the fuck common are adrenaline shots? I'm not even sure they're even real, lmfao.

And if there's already a pill formed health substance implemented in the game (I thought I once found pills in my inventory when I was playing once, can't remember) I apologize for my ignorance.

very common, you'll find one on anyone with severe allergies (often in 2 packs). The technical term is epinephrine auto injector.

they're commonly called EpiPens.

And yes, the mod has pills called Phalanx that delay infection.

As for the health boost, I would be against that. An epipen should simply increase your speed, along with visual effects. Also using an epipen while infected would speed up infection (faster heart rate = faster circulation of virus)

I knew that, but even still, the whole idea is a joke. Sure, EpiPen side effects might be an increased heart rate, but it's not going to make you be able to run faster or increase visual effects... it will probably end up doing the opposite, possibly making you sick since you have no need to even use epinephrine. I'm not as much opposed to adding an 'adrenaline' shot to the game as I am with just the fact it will be even more similar to L4D2.. that's the deal breaker for me.

Bottom line, epinephrine =/= adrenaline and the whole idea is a joke. It would make more sense to implement some dirty syringes that may or may not be filled with gasoline.

Also, thanks for informing me they often come in 2 packs

Are you trolling or something?

adrenaline is simply an alternate term for epinephrine. They're both the same substance.

An increased heart rate results in more blood flow to muscles, so they'll be able to work faster. It'll also result in major headaches and stuff, hence the visual effects.

and you said that they were different substances?

I feel the current system of no health stations in objective maps is important towards the atmosphere of the game, and gameplay especially. It gives the impression you need to STAY AWAY from the zombies, instead of fight them with the knowledge in the back of your mind that you can heal yourself later. I adore the fact that health is valued in this mod, in which others merely have it as a passive life force that does its job for you. I don't believe there needs to be an item that increases your health, because if you get bit, popping pain killers may make the pain subside for a while, but you still have a bleeding gaping hole in your side and popping said pill won't stop your bleeding (in most cases it will INCREASE the flow of blood if you take a blood thinner). Also, bandaging the wound merely keeps it from being further irritated or infected; it doesn't make said gaping hole magically disappear. My main point is that this game doesn't reward you for killing zombies, it rewards you for surviving, and if there were a health item added, it would take away from this aspect substantially.

I do believe, however, that maybe a speed boost from just getting attacked or grabbed by a zombie could act as a passive system to replenish your sprinting ability up to 10-15% more than normal, even if already depleted, but have this happen as a cooldown effect, simulating that your body HAS natural adrenaline reserves in time of emergencies, but needs to rest and recover so that this adrenaline reserve doesn't run dry when needed most. Put simply, if you are grabbed or attacked by the undead (grabbed; lose health from a zombie, excluding damage from falls/fire/infected water/hit by fellow player to exclude abuse of this ability), you receive an adrenaline boost immediately to full, allowing you to push maybe one more time than usual, or run away if needed. This would give players valuable time and energy when it's needed the most, much like how this could also apply in reality. This also prevents people from griefing 'adrenaline items,' and hoarding them to speed through a map while leaving their teammates behind in their wake, which is an aspect of the game that, yes, can happen currently, but I'd rather much didn't so to encourage players to cooperate in order to survive.

To refer subtly to players that this ability has been 'triggered' (not used), having your FOV marginally increase for a few seconds (2-3) by a small amount to simulate dilation of the pupils, as well as a VERY SLIGHT vibration of your vision for that time, could be enough to signal to players that they've received notice that their fight or flight response has kicked in, and they can do what they need with that. I feel this suggestion serves as a fair compromise and solution to the initial merits of this thread, don't you all?
