Texturing Help

4 posts in this topic

Alright, so I've started using Blender a couple days ago and I've got a few models that I think are pretty good. I have the SMD plugin for source exporting but I want to texture my models before I export them.

So there's the question.... How do I texture them??

I've looked at tons of videos but I just can't seem to get it.

I am looking to texture with wood, metal, and chain. (I guess I can just use metal for the chain)

Hahaheheh heheheh... eheheh... uh....

Yeah...

Okay so first off you need to assign MatIDs (If Blender uses them) to you faces. Then you have to set up a tidy, tight, and optimized UV map for the object (only one channel, Source doesn't multichannel as far as I know)

Then you need to export that unwrap as a bitmap or copy it to your clipboard, go to Photoshop and you need to maintain RGB and an image size that is a power of two (256x256,512x512,1024x1024, etc) Apply the material (even as a PSD) to the model and export your SMDs.

Compile the model and all that.

Take the texture TGA and put it in the Materialsrc/models/samedirectoryasyourmodelprettymuch directory. Make sure this same directory also exists in Materials/models/samedirectoryasyourmodelprettymuch

Take that TGA and drag it on to either VTex in SourceSDK or you can use VTFEdit to generate the VTF.

You'll need to write a VertexLitGeneric VMT material file to go with the actual texture VTF.

You are asking how to texture in blender right? If so do you know how to make materials and assign them to faces?Do you know how to UVwrap?Do you know how to bake? I can help you out but I need a little more understanding of what you know first to help you get started.
