Installing and updating your NMRiH dedicated server

7 posts in this topic

Morning peeps and congrats once again to those involved in the release of this awesome mod.

However, time to get down to business.

While I was setting up my ZUST dedicated server, I noticed quite a few servers out there still running 1.01. So I thought I would make a quick guide on how to install the dedicated server as well as up the game mode from 1.01 to 1.02b.

You wouldn't be reading this if you did not already have the NMRiH dedicated server installed and running, but if not, I will write a quick tutorial.

Alrighty. The first thing you will need to do is download the Hldsupdatetool. save it to a temporary location and run it.

burn through the wizard accepting the terms until it asks you for a destination folder. click browse. navigate to C:, and create a directory called srcds. Install there.

navigate to c:/srcds and double click the hldsupdatetool.

Your pc will now download the new hldsupdatetool.

Now we can start downloading the files. This can take aaages depending on the connection the server uses.

Create a shortcut to hldsupdatetool, right click the shortcut, click properties. At the end of the "target" box, add this:

-command update -game "orangebox" -dir c:\srcds

Close the properties window, and double click the shortcut.

Now its time to wait.

Once the download is done, or even while you wait, download the windows server zip file located here.

Once this is done, extract the nmrih folder to the c:/srcds/orangebox directory.

Now the server is installed and running 1.01. to start the server, navigate to your c:/srcds/orangebox directory, right click the srcds.exe, and create a shortcut. Right click the shortcut, click properties.

In the "target" box, add this to the end: -game nmrih +map nmo_cabin -console

Feel free to change the default map.

Don't forget to forward the ports required for srcds, these ports are:

Steam Friends Service UDP 1200 1200

Steam Main UDP UDP 27000 27015

Steam Main TCP TCP 27020 27039

Steam CyberCafe TCP 27040 27041

Steam Dedicated Server HLDS, SRCDS UDP 27015 27015

Steam Dedicated Server HLTV UDP 27020 27020

Steam SRCDS Rcon TCP 27015 27015

If you need help forwarding ports or don't know how, please, Google it. don't ask here.

Now, once you have the server installed, you will have realized that you cant connect with your 1.02b game mode. The server must be updated to this version. This is an easy thing to do. All you need is the 1.02 game client, and the 1.02b hotfix patch. OR, just the 1.02b game client.

To keep things simple, the first step will be to copy the entire nmrih game folder (located at .../steam/steamapps/sourcemods), and copy it straight over the top of the nmrih folder (located at .../srcds/orangebox). Click "replace" when prompted to overwrite the original files.

Open up the NMRiH_Beta1_WindowsDS.zip once again, and copy the entire cfg folder. Paste it back over the top of the config folder in your srcds/orangebox/nmrih folder.

If your game was 1.02b, your now done! easy!

If it was only 1.02, all you need to do now is download the 1.02b hotfix, copy the nmrih folder from the zip file and paste it over the top of the nmrih srcds folder (exactly the same as we did above)

You are now done. don't bother about configs, the default ones should be the least of your worries with the various other bugs brought forth with beta versions. However, you should edit the server name and if you want, some of the other info via the nmrih/cfg/valve.txt file.

I WANT TO SEE MORE SERVERS FOR THIS EPIC GAME. YOU NOW HAVE NO EXCUSE.

PS. most home broadband connections with +2mbit upload speed should be ample enough to run an 8 slot server with less than 100ms to all those in your country,

happy gaming!

Does this work with 1.05v?
