Remove Player Status in Scoreboard

17 posts in this topic

No More Room In Hell focuses on realism in a zombie setting and with the inclusion of walkie talkies, I always wondered why the developers added in the function to see if players were alive or deceased at any time. In a true setting, you wouldn't be able to know this about your teammates unless you had the technology.

I propose that the Player Status be removed from the scoreboard, and ONLY activated upon visual confirmation. This can be several factors such as,

1. Seeing a teammate die before you.

2. Seeing a teammate as a reanimated zombie.

3. Seeing a teammate be extracted.

4. All players could be assumed "Alive" at start of any mission.

My reasoning for this change to NMRIH is because it will make the game much more fun, and induce a greater sense of immersion for the players. Will you stick in a group and be able to keep track of all players? Or are you the solo rambo that likes to jet ahead? Or perhaps the deceptive, sly, team member that is secretly plotting the demise of all his "friends?"

Walkie Talkies will be even more stressed upon because of this change since many team members, either left behind, lost, or in the lead will be using them to communicate to other players that at times they need to know are dead or alive.

One scene that came to my mind was during The Walking Dead when Rick talks into his walkie talkie, hoping to get an answer back, or hoping that the guy on the other end would hear him. When I first played NMRIH, this was how I acted towards the situation when I was lost or saw no teammates until I discovered the scoreboard showed the player status and then I became apathetic.

Lastly, I would like to thank the developers or any other curious readers for their time. I have been waiting for the mod since 2004, it's been a long time coming and I'm glad to be here now.

Wow I totally agree with the fact of not knowing if team mates are dead or alive when you do not see them die or if you don't see them as zombies yet. Great idea!

For pretty much ever it did not display your status, but what was intended to add suspense instead made things more confusing and frustrating rather than interesting and enjoyable.

How did it do that during closed testing? Also it would stress more teamwork and a higher risk for players that stray off.

It's really awesome when you think you have teammates covering your back or doing secondary objectives while you do something else; then you call out for them when you succeeded and get ominous silence in reply.

Wondering where everybody went, you backtrack the streets back to the garage, and find nobody there.

Then

Check the scoreboard and realize everybody else is dead.

"Ah."

"...Lame."

I told myself When I broke my immersion and stopped worrying.

Then I hugged a zombie to restart the round.

Is there any way we can make this feature of hiding the player states a reality? implement it to "realism" mode please?

When players are absent from view for a certain amount of time there status should change to "unknown" till they are seen alive or dead to

Personally I think it'd be better with out other players' status one the scoreboard, but like everyones saying, put this feature in realism mode. What you could do is have an automated radio check for the walkie talkies whereby one player calls another player who also has one via the voice command menu, and you briefly see the status of the guy on the other end and anyone within a certain radius of him (and vice versa for the guy on the other end)

if added it could be useful for when groups split, e.g. Chinatown, one goes to gunshop, the other goes for the fuel.

herp derp trolololololo

no.

but for the deceased/alive status;

If you can choose to disable/enable it for the server, and if it's disabled for realism mode, I say yes.

I'M SORRY; I have to skip all that; REVEREND: ZOMBIE PANIC SOURCE IS FUCKING ANNOYING FOR HAVING A SCOREBOARD AT ALL! I AM SO FUCKING TIRED OF WANTING TO CHECK MY SCORE over 3x a round! (Reading from someone still frustrated after MORE THAN 2 months of not being able to REALLY play games!) Sometimes, I just hate that NEW GAMES have to come out WITH BETTER GRAPHICS... I would love to just see Zombie Panic NOT FROM THE SOURCE ENGINE ADD IN NEW COOL STUFF... and not just ALL OUT move to Zombie Panic Source) The zombies in ZPS make me wish I HAD A MINI-Gun! Those zombies are so ruthless!

At least in Zombie Panic HL1, the zombies could be in LARGE numbers but so friendly looking to kill or run away from. I know it doesn't make sense... well... generally... For some reason... zombies look cute in video games.

Sometimes, people's choices are turned into ADDICTION! Tell me "well that's your problem" when you might as well tell EVERY SMOKER who wants to QUIT "that's your problem; it's your choice to start and quit" WHEN THEY ARE ADDICTED!

If you want to cure addiction, ... YOU CAN'T! EVERYONE DEPENDS ON MONEY AND MONEY IS ALWAYS HARD TO GET! THE ONES WHO SPEND IT ARE LUCKY ENOUGH TO EVEN SPEND IT AND STILL HATE SPENDING MONEY AS IT IS! Addiction comes so that people depend on SHIT food that COSTS LOTS OF MONEY like chips and McDonalds and STILL are broke! IT gives YOU money at the cost of other's expense! This life IS ALWAYS about the survival of the fittest; don't get it twisted!

However, to calm things down, Maxx seems to make that point more approving.

Too stick the needle further up the skin: PEople tend to be disappointed when they have too much. It's like we become spoiled when we enjoy certain freedoms and then realize: that's it! But we WANT THAT KICK AGAIN... like the first time drinking a soda, AFTER becoming addicted to tobacco, or realizing it feels good to touch your dick and having no knowledge or experience previous to it.

So... REALLY: what makes a great game is: diversity and creativity! If THEY SPEND TOO MUCH TIME SPENDING MONEY ON THEIR EMPLOYEES DEVELOPING ONE, SOLID GOOD GAME, THEY WON'T HAVE THEIR BIG BUCS PER WEEK OR MONTH! SO GO FIGURE FOR LEFT 4 DEAD!

So by having MORE stitches, black person-rigging, AND MORE tweaks, and HIDING YOUR FOOD under the jacket OR BEHIND THE BOOKS, PEOPLE HAVE MORE FUN BECAUSE IT'S WHAT THEY LEAST EXPECT!

WHAT "more stitches" and all that means is: tad bits! The scoreboard has to do with it, the graphics (which are intense and good), the gameplay, the sprites (how the zombies walk), their waypoint,s WHERE they are placed, WHEN they spawn or respawn,... WHERE they respawn, the buildings, the BACKGROUND BUILDINGS; EVERYTHING means EVERYTHING To the player. If you want ONE GOOD GAME, it has to be the full package.

I LOVED PERFECT DARK 64 and Conker's BAd Fur Day 64 AND EVEN Grand Theft Auto (3, San Andreas, Vice City[ALOT], and 4[never really played]) because they had so much to offer:

Perfect DArk's multiplayer:

1.)I got to play Golden Eye's Facility level in the multiplayer

2.)up to 8 sims, in which you can change their difficulty (Dark being highest and CRAZY)

3.) BEing able to CHANGE the sims' attributes:

a. Turtle sim: gives the sim ULTRA shield protection but runs slow(BUT-RUNS-SLOW)

b. Shield sim: who always depends on shield

c. Feud sim: who ALWAYS kills the weakest

d. rocket sim: who used explosives

c. fist sim: who only punched you and disarmed you

d. speed sim: one who RUNS SUPER FAST

4.)Being able to disarm your enemy.

5.)Being able to play co-operative missions with a friend (Even if it was slow on N64)

6.) BEing able to play the ONLY game with counter-operative (which one player is Joanna Dark and the other takes control of enemies with minimal health like the agents in The Matrix movie taking control of people)

7.) Being able to configure which weapons you used in the game (Using those N-bombs in Perfect Dark 64's multiplayer in the facility level WAS SO MUCH FUN... it was like a WAR inside of the facility... THE PERFECT MAP for the dizzing, HORRIFYING N-bombs)

The N-Bomb made the area go dark and makes you dizzy if your in its range... so FUCKING Badass. Now games like Halo OWN, WHEN IDEAS FROM PERFECT DARK WOULD .... Only in my GREATEST imaginations be so AWESOME... I mean JUST being able to use the facility from Golden Eye 64 in Perfect Dark 64 was SO AWESOME. I loved it all!

Conker's Bad Fur Day 64:

1.)The multiplayer had racing, battle tanks, war, deathmatch, bank robbing, capture the flag(I miss that in the first Starcraft lol and NO ONE PLAYED IT NOT EVEN ME but I can tell that shit can go hard.)

2.)You can play as novelty characters like Greg the Grim Reaper, the general of the Teddys and Sgt. Squirrel or Conker in his Neo Matrix suit.

And BOTH games lasted long!

=================================================================================================================================

The point you read here is what made me happy: diversity!

Conker Bad Furday had a GREAT single-player: full of wonderful music... introduction music and ending music and funny characters and story lines and all that... AND A HORROR SEGMENT and a segment on levels with war going on... It's just a cheezy but so awesome.. so full of life: seeing that squirrel with the turtle-armor fly through the sky to talk to Conker after coming home from war on a peaceful boat ride bike... tired... glum... the night is dark... going across the water must've been cold but the end of it feels warm... but still cold... so much death.

Another thread derailment brought to you by none other than Joe.

I just read the first few lines, then the last lines, and if they don't stay on subject between themselves or the thread, I ignore the post itself.

I guess the monitor screenlight truly does play a role for freedors. Trust me, I will grow too tired one day. If I actually rewinded my life and felt how I feel today, I would think so differently on life, but when it comes to being old, I guess feelings stay the same, or there is an amazing difference.

At least my posts support the topic in hand.

Edit: I do support no HUD always in NMRiH. One thing great about Perfect Dark 64 is how you can choose if you wanted to see how many bullets there were and which things you want and don't want to see in game. I actually took advantage of that since I was such a creative and skilled Perfect Agent player.

Games these days ARE ON THE XBOX 3-FUCKING 60 and PLAYSTATION 3 and Wii and the Wemotes.... but those games can't put in interesting "tadbits" that make things fun like giving you the opportunity to CHOOSE what you want to see that doesn't affect the game play?

I am just saying NMRiH did a great job by at least not having HUD showing up for the most part.

As far as the rest goes, many games could figure out ways to help players learn to play a game. Not everyone learned the same exact ways we did that make us so smart and responsible today.
