Cabin is too easy... perhaps make it a bit harder?

19 posts in this topic

Cabin ATM is the easiest map in the game.. I've seen it finished several times with all 8 players alive. To entertain themselves, people would shoot eachother at the extraction point.

Could we get a difficulty bump on this map? It's just not fun.

Yeah we are going definitely bump up the difficulty on Cabin

It's easy yes but it's also good to have a map that is good for 2 players, some maps (Like Chinatown) are for more than 4 players then there's Cabin which is for about 2 - 4 players due to the size and the difficulty.

cabin you can finish alone, broadway is for about 2-4 people, and chinatown is the hardest one so far

When the next patch is out which will be soon, cabins zombie spawn system will be completely redone and a few other fixes and ill toughen it up

I'm actually going to be honest - the entire game is easy. I can finish all of the maps solo. Boringly simple & repetative :/

For chinatown, if you get a chainsaw with fuel in it + a fuel pick up, you're set for the entire map. I've seen atleast 5 chainsaws in one round before, plus that garunteed fuel pickup in that little room near the spawn exit.

Some people like it the way it is, so here's a thought: Difficulty settings. Perhaps higher difficulties would decrease the amount of items spawned, make you fatter (not be able to sprint as long), and heavily increase the rate of fuel that the chainsaw consumes. Also just make zombies more threatening in general.

Yeah you have to make a topic because you know the map is badass. Agreed!

If there's anything more to add to this map is hell itself you must go through under the place so that when you finally do escape, if you're lucky, you realize you had forgotten you USED to be and started on the 2nd floor of a large house, but you ended up in a very obscure basement; the worst basement even without the ghouls and zombies. You finally return to the first floor, or maybe the freaking attic through a laundry chute you climbed up or Satan decided to give you a fucked up moment by teleporting you all the way to the start of the map alone.

Just saying that IF it were to get any large; there's the basement, or being able to roam past those gates outside into They-Hunger-like creativity for back areas of rocks and rivers and possible passage ways created by such an artist who would design the house itself.

Otherwise, I agree mapping gets hard esp. when you want to go so far as to tearing down the walls to add more; which is just like doing it in real life: it's expensive not just financially.

Speaking as a mapper myself it does get very annoying if something doesn't work the first time, then tear the whole map apart and start from scratch. Very annoying and makes you hate mapping.

However Cabin is not a bad map at all it's the shortest and easiest map but that doesn't make it bad, all it needs is more zombies spawns.

I think It just needs more "timed" objectives, which take time to activate and finish, and while this happens maybe make zombies attracted to said objective and swarm you?

because you can walk through most places unscathed, since zombies don't notice you.

Ive done a number of things in the next patch for cabin, i.e less ammo, better zombie spawns and fix a whole bunch of stuff

I can see it's a tough idea for mappers to have different spawn locations for survivors.

My whole idea in IF I learned to map well, which I should still hold faith to, is to:

Make a map where the beginning and even around the middle of the map has survivors spawning in different places, but they can't rush to the end of the map without working together so it almost doesn't matter where they spawn, but designing it is worth the pleasure.

I imagined the unlucky survivor will sometimes spawn in a location where they start off running from zombies while others are happy and dandy spawning in a bedroom in two.

I said it in the 1.01 patch thread and wrote it as a suggestion in the general suggestion thread. I think that the whole "it's too easy" thing is due to the fact that zombies don't really chase you, they just try to attack you if you get close. If some shamblers would keep following you, gathering behind you and forming a undead horde that keeps following your scent once they smell it, cabin, and the game in general, would be so much harder. Survivors would be forced to stick together, move faster and barricade/close doors to slow down the undead horde. It's something like what happens in The Walking Dead. He enters the city, undeads start awakening behind you, slowly following him. He doesn't notice it, and when he turns back he find a horde of zombies blocking the way back. Would also open the game to some strategies and would force survivors to move carefully since they're not free to run where they want, just evading shamblers. Imagine cabin with this system: you move through the cabin. Shamblers you don't kill start following you, gathering behind you and following you. At the same time, you've to move forward and complete objectives. A part of the team must complete the objectives, the others must slow down/push back the horde (more teamwork). You can close doors behind you. The horde would pick up another way to reach you. Proceeding through the map you would never know where the horde will come from, and may be the next turn will put you face to face with the horde you thought you left behind.

Would make the game much more difficult, force survivors to move (faster rounds), force teamwork and would increse the fear factor.

Definitely agree on adding a Timer that's simple, then just add a trigger to set off a Spawner then after so long set off the Game Over function which would make the ending a lot harder.

I think Cabin is great for newbies. Could use a buttload of zombies at the boathouse though, and maybe less guns.

As it is, it's far too easy to get to the extraction point.

I don't understand cabin. It is all blocked up and locked up, but it's as if a ton of people where in there with a few of them bit, and then slowly they locked up the infected people in room by room till the living where in the attic.

So it only makes since that there are few zombies inside, but that makes it no fun.

There are too many guns. People can get out front and slaughter every zombie till there are no more. There needs to be some edge that zombies can drop into the yard from to make it more real.
