¤Level-Designing for NMRiH¤

For those of you who don't know how to map yet and thinking about taking on such burden ? Then I thought I'd make a guide to resources here which will teach you everything you need to know about using and mapping with hammer.

I learnt how to use hammer by reading the tutorials below and eventually released a map and got flamed multiple times for it but that's hard life for a stubborn mapper! So here's a website containing all the useful tutorials which will get you going and eventually teach you how to make your very own map.

Important Aspects When It Comes To Mapping In No Particular Order

Plan!
(Plan your map, brainstorm some ideas on a sheet of paper and use that brainstorm to help design your map plan)

Trial & Error!
(Most important aspect when it comes to mapping, this is very useful when it comes to developing and fixing things, I was taught this and it's paid off ever since!)

Professionalism!
(Give your map a good reputation and some great feedback by designing your map to the best of your abilities Balance your map, optimize, make your map as real like as possible and push yourself to creating the perfect professionally designed map there is!)

Dedication!
(Never give up, map's take a long time to develop but it all pay's off)

Stick by these 4 important aspects of mapping and see your hard work pay off, remember map plagiarism in not tolerated here, using someone's work without permission is disrespectful

I don't want to flood the list of threads so I need to tell someone: I open up Source SDK and I can't even use the blocking tool. If I can't use that, I can't make a map unless I was a genius of CPU manipulation! Unless I was a fucking alien who's spiritual grasp and intelligent seeks also one's needs in compliance with the realistic problem.

I can't block... and Source SDK 2006 and 2007 only bring me into this HL2 menu not the hammer editor... AND I WISH I could just click and go STRAIGHT to the hammer editor AND NOT the "make your shit here menu... including making a mod or a face poser... ummm you know" so I have to click hammer editor in that menu. I am at the state of being that I am willing to study how to use hammer through SPENDING everyday just looking at tutorials until I got them ALL memorized. I WILL DEFINITELY HAVE TO DO THAT if there's nothing I can do but buy a new fucking computer.

If there is such thing as a program that syncs another source's game to your keyboard, along with it's own graphics abilities, and all it does is give me the video from that source and I use my keyboard to control what it is I see. Like if I were to play NMRiH, I am only playing from my keyboard and a video feed and not my computer's graphics... or by minimum of its usage. That would be helpful to poor people like me. If it's wrong not to give credit to games or music by not purchasing their CD album or lolmp3, then it shouldn't be wrong to have a game that doesn't cost money be streamed to one's keyboard and monitor to just play. LOL, take that, LAWl and copyrights!!

Yeah but I clicked on "Source SDK 2007" and it loaded up a menu from Half Life 2... and I think including a "stress test" to test frame rate... in which I happily sent Steam my FPS report after! ...

I want to use SDK... but ... 2006 or 2007 just loads up... something .... stupid.. and regular Source SDK, which brings me to the menu that shows hammer editor, and when I click on hammer editor, SDK loads up and I can't use the block tool to make walls and a a level.

I can't use the block tool to make waall and a level in the first Sourece SDK(the only one that even brings up the menu that lsits "Hammer Editor" and as for the other Source SDK (2006-07) they... just load up as if it's a game and brings me into a ... MENU that HAS NOTHING TO DO WITH MAPPING!@

joe if you cant read the differende in the 2 things like

Source SDk and Source sdk base 2007/2006, you are not ready for anny thing advanced like hammer, i suggest you start with mspaint.exe

CAN YOU PLEASE JUST ANSWER THE PART WHERE I AM SAYING THE BIGGEST PROBLEM RIGHT NOW:

SDK WON'T LET ME BLOCK! NOW, IF I AM MENTIONING THAT THE BLOCKING TOOL DOESN'T WORK, THAT MEANS I CAN AT LEAST NAVIGATE TO THE RIGHT SOURCE, RIGHT? I WOULD FIGURE NAVIGATING IS A USEFUL TRAIT, BUT NOT TO YOU.

OR MAYBE YOU JUST-FUCKING-DON'T-KNOW HOW TO FIX SUCH A PROBLEM WITH THE BLOCKING TOOL ISSUE? I JUST CLICK BLOCK AND NOTHING HAPPENS... NOTHING "BLOCKS" AS IT USED TO WHEN I TRIED.

DO-YOU-GET-THE-SIMPLICITY-I-AM-TRYING-TO-PUT-TO-YOU?

I mean I just don't understand you choose to professionally respond to me with "if you can't see the difference, then you are retarded and shouldn't map" AND can't say why the blocking tool doesn't work, then I think you were illegitimate to respond to me at all with that.

Edit: "Looking to map? Look no further!" My ass! I should have checked back with your stupid ass post SOONER SO I CAN MAKE THE IMPORTANT QUESTION I HAD CLEAR FOR YOU: My blocking tool Won't work. How do I fix it? Is reinstalling your best idea? If you don't know or just can't respond, then gGHET your shit and LEAVE ME apartment and I don't want to see you ever again!

Edit1: Besides, I thought Source SDK 2006/07 meant like an updated version, not the stupidest shit in the world that takes you to a menu! Do I have relation? OH WAIT! WHY SHOULD I SPEAK?! I AM TOO STUPID TO KNOW THE DIFFERENCE... or at question of being too stupid... hmm.. If I need get myself more straight with differences, then so do you. Most people have a trigger-finger, but who has more of a BRAIN?

reason why your *block tool* i call it a brush tool, doest work 1 you didt klik new map or you didt writed in the configurations to run hammer properly

is this your first time you are tryng to create a map?

have you tryd to read tutorials, hammer ist a instant usetool do everything wonder

Asking things about sourceSDK over a forum can be quite hard for both the questioner and answerer, just add me and download Teamviewer 7 ( should only be a few MB ) and then i could help you out with anything you want, really.

To put it simpler than morgoth just make a "light" entity and in properties select "Appearance" and in the drop down menu find the "Fluorescent Flicker" choice and click apply...also make sure to give your light color since Hammer makes it default white (which is a very rare light color).

Hi, I've been inactive my life has changed. You'll understand when you go from having 16 hours a day free time to moving to a different country and being left with 4 hours.

I'm working on a website, I plan on getting back into testing for NMRiH and ZPS but for now I've decided to blow the dust off this thread.
