SMOD-like bleeding

12 posts in this topic

Just a tiny suggestion, but I think it would be impressive through.

A critical hit could result in a splattering bleeding wound like in SMOD. Especially if you cut/shoot off any limbs or the head of a zombie.

It's funny you bring this up we just got our blood particle effects hooked up to headshots earlier this week.

Only trouble w/ ours compared to what I would like to see what is present and has been in the SMOD. Is the fact when the blood comes out, it stains the floor and builds up puddles.

Needless to say, the blood fx in SMOD are godlike compared to what we presently have.:P

Well what would you want it to do crazymatt? I need feed back so I can do it then. So do we want SMOD like blood? Once every thing is parented right gore wise, that's when I can really get to eating this effect for breakfast! :D

Its supposed to represent chunks flying off. I especially like how it works out when a head explodes now. Although depending on what we can do code wise is how much effect we'll be able to do.

I don't think that this is the stuff that we need, because zombies are kind of dead -> no heartbeat -> no pulsing bleeding like in SMOD vids.

As much as I agree with that point. The only part I heavily don't agree by, is simply because in nmrih. The apocalypse is just beginning and people are still indeed fresh full of blood.

If you want to see some impressive blood effects check this video out:

edit: It's very early stage, and more for showing off the technology at the moment, but the concept is really awesome. Seeing the blood actually run down the body dynamically is pretty cool, and while the quirting isn't perfect, it does look cool. If you haven't heard of this game before, I would look into it. It's quite an interesting game, and the engine and concepts involved are awesome and original.

Further edit: I'm not saying that this is possible to do in nmrih, it seems like it would be extremely difficult to do that same effect in the source engine, I was just sharing some lovely gore while we were on the subject.
