Alright, let's here the paranoia. If tomorrow you woke up and found that you had stepped into "Dawn of the Dead", what would you do? Where would you go? Who would you try to save?

To mix it up, tell me what would change if say you were at work when this all happened. Would this change your plans? Would sacrifices have to be made or would you try to save other people or go somewhere else in order to survive?

Also, feel free to comment on other people's courses of action. You may be able to advise them and keep them from making a mistake that will end their lives prematurely. Well, should there ever be an actual zombie apocalypse that is...

I'd stock up on some food/water then try to find a boat :o

Suppose I would look for my family/fiends and offer them to come along on a boat ride ;) last time I checked zombies can't swim out to sea!

Well, assuming it was summer time, I'd be back in Omaha, Nebraska in my neighborhood. I volunteer building houses for Habitat for Humanity, so I'd get my hammer and crowbar. After arming myself I would get my family and probably take our minivan as far away from Omaha as possible, hoping that the infection has not spread.

That is in reality. If this were the movies, or something, I'd probably go to the mall since they have a lot of food and stuff.

I first maybe call my friend. ThenI would take a bike and try to go to that friends house, because he has guns like hunting rifle, .22 rifle, USP .45 (or 9mm I don't remember), Hämmerli X-ESSE .22 and doublebarreled shotgun. Also, it's actually good to keep friends and who-ever alive, because you don't actually want those zombies anymore. I mean to keep zombie numbers low, it's better.

I'll write more tomorrow in school. :D

I actually live in the middle of an island, so a lot of the options for hide-outs don't apply to me. The closest would be the countryside, since there's a relatively large sub-tropical rainforest to the north of where I live, and it'd be uninhabited unless zombies turn out to have a taste for long hikes. Granted, there's one resort there, but hardly anyone's ever there unless it's Summer. If it was Summer, I'd just take my chances and drive to the mainland. As for weapons, I'd go with tools... since they don't require ammunition to be used, and I can utilize them for the more mundane aspects of survival.

If I was at school at the time, I'd just run out, get in my car, and drive to the forest I was talking about. That is, if zombies are actually slow-moving. If Romero was had it out for humanity and has been lying all along, I'd barricade myself in my classroom until the coast was clear. I'd be willing to throw one of the ditzy, stereotypical "Spoiled Brat" girls out to use as bait, if the situation called for it.

I know the Guide says to avoid Malls, but our mall is always empty, is really secure, and is nearby (within biking distance). And I've got guns aplenty to bring with me. All in all, I have to go somewhere other than my house because not only do I live in sort of a neighborhood, our house is on a corner next to a pretty major street, so we get waaay too much traffic past our house to be able to stay safely.

I live in a small community, a town just in between London and Brighton. Probably the two most hotspots in the south section of England.

I'd probably stay at home and and use my shotgun for defence

I thought this through and made some mapped out plans regarding this:

terraintv8.jpg

This is the main terrain of the town, the red circle indicates the centre of town (and possibly the danger zone) and the orange one also indicates a point of interest, I'll explain more on this in a moment. The gray circle indicates a relocation zone and possible hiding place

barricadeplandg1.jpg

This is the general area I live in. As you can see the large red circle indicates the area which I'll organise a group of neighbours to form a potential road block's shown by the brown and black lines at certain points in the road. The red crosses and red dots indicate firing positions should the event that firearms become available. If you notice there is a gray line located just near the top part of the circle, this is the were vehicles will be stationed and is only route in or out for vehicles. The red lines indicate firing lanes, as you can plainly see the east road block would become a problem, because of the wide firing lanes as for the south and west where zombies would be boxed in and made into a tight group where we can concentrate on them in a line rather than a massive group.

markedpointsvr0.jpg

This map shows areas of interest and importance, yellow circles indicate possible relocation or refugee and survivor zones, these will be reinforced and made into outposts, checkpoints and lookouts for the main base. The orange area's indicate important areas. The large orange circle shows a group of shops, this includes groceries and bits and bobs and would in the event that rescue was not possible would probably last us at least a week or longer if we ration our food. The smaller one is the Petrol Station, this would be valuable if we were planning on using vehicles for supply runs and relocation.

zonesdg0.jpg

This is an important section, this details the location of the town centre and the main shopping areas. Again if rescue was not possible or was not available at the time, this would be the prime location for supplies (thats if it wasn't looted of course). Again the orange circles or boxes are important areas, I'll explain why:

The largest orange circle details a long building. This is the shopping mall, now usually it's best to avoid such a place, as such it was marked as a Danger zone as well for possibly high infection.

The orange box shows the location of a college which has a tower block and is the highest building in the town and would be perfect for a helicopter landing and lookout point, this area would be a prime location to secure as it has several security and fire doors which can be electronically shut (a recent system added from 2007) however it is the closest to the three main infection areas so it would be a high risk target.

Finally the smaller circle shows the Police Station also marked as a high risk infection area. This would probably be the main source of firearms if the military hasn't yet been called in and may function as a relocation area if its secured in the long run.

I know this seems a little over board but it's better to be safe and prepared for the worst outcome.

I would rather wake up and step in Resident Evil so I can go around the city meeting people who'd say, "the seweres is your best chance from here," and, "quick! Head to the station!" Then I'd head there or a mansion and have to solve riddles like finding the clover key to unlock the door and stuff...

Otherwise, I'd just be at my home, hopefully with all the guns I can have and just go zombie hunting with my friends...

Same situation with me, i build houses in summer time... but i have a nailgun and angle grinder :)

lol that's the funniest thing I've heard in a while :D

As for referencing the zombie survival guide, I'd hardly base my decisions around it. It was entertaining, but not the ideal guide to surviving zombies. Most likely people like us have more zombie experience (movies, games, literature) than the author :P

I have a rifle with 575 rounds of ammo, about three months of stored food, and I live within twenty miles of a National Guard Armory, within fifty miles of White Sands Missile Range (Thousands of troops stationed there), and within seventy miles of Holloman AFB, which has a full squadron of fighter-bombers. I'd have no trouble finding help.

well first of all my family is rather large but assuming we were all together, we have like 3 shotguns a hunting rifle, and 2 snub nose revolvers. and if course me reading the zombie survival guide twice through we would probably take 2 cars the truck and a sadan. and make a large trek up north to alaska/canada.

Would get all my dad's gun into the living room, keep my mom dad and brother close, then I would start to seal off our garden in the back. I live 2 min. away from a grocery store, soooooo if it was in the start of an outbreak, I would go there and buy all the food and water I could get my hands on. Then I would barricade my house, head up on the roof along with sleeping bags, and all kinds of clothes and shit. And when it turned winter, I don't know what I would do. Hmm, also it depends on how long it would take for the government to regain control.

more or so just try to make a tree-house kind of building, since zombies can't jump or climb (well the typical ones). Having more than 2 entrances is way too dangerous so its much better off if you live near woods where there are plenty of trees and a lack of population.

You should also find a house that is mainly a second floor (meaning theres a stairs on ground level to second floor) and destroy the staircase for each entrances so the dead can't just walk in. Then you would create rope ladders and make some climbable entrances on the few floors... Oh and should use bricks and cement to board up the windows.

Honestly, what's all this fighting malarkey? I'd stock up on food and either wait it out in my home or leave town with my family if the zombies reach my neighborhood. Now it if was truly the apocalypse and the end of human life as we know it, I'd move into the first empire that springs up after the infection.

I think i'd be too disturbed to go out and try to kull them in my local area. Theres no guns around here either...my uncle has a few hunting shottys, so would probably see where he plans to do. Mainly will just play it by ear, keeping a radio close.... I could barricade my house, just about. It's kind of long and flat (only 2 floors) .. but the driveway is elevated. Zombie couldn't climb in easily....but i'm sure they'd find a way eventually in mass. My neighbourhood would be raped in no time though, too compact, low level houses, no natural barriers anywhere.

You'd move into the empire?

I'd START it! >:)

You'd be dead and eaten. I'd dance on your mushy left over entrails and then have a bite myself. ;)

I feel amazingly too lazy to explain my self (Read the zombie survival guide and you will understand me more) but rifle for accuracy/ one shot one kill i live in suburbs and If it was a class one or two outbreak I would stay in my house, anymore and I would gather up survivors and hide in a school because most schools have cafetiera (food) some first aid and trust me most schools are like prisons now with the gang warfare going on. DONT BARRICADE HOUSE YOU STUIPD LITTLE NUMBNUTS ITS A WASTE WHEN 2-3 ZOMBIES COULD TEAR DOWN THAT BARRICADE IN A DAY! Destroy your stairs so zombies cannot climb up, and fill everything you can with water "bathtub sink" and stuff. DONT BARRICADE! WASTE!
