Bringing up Jazz fusion was not meant to divert from any sort of topic, just an example of how technical music can be far worse than something that is the exact opposite, Slayer in this case, which is about speed and aggression rather than anything else. To be fair, they're atleast not Venom. But it's fun to shout straw man on the internet.

I hate to claim to know your motives better than you do, but you're bullshitting now. The phrasing of that bit quite explicitly says that you were deliberately stating that I can only appreciate technical music. I think Nordland is one of the most epic fucking albums ever to grace the planet, and there's no shredding to be found there.

That aside though, you know nothing about thrash metal. Slayer was ontop of the thrash wave in the 80s for a very good reason, because they were fucking awesome. Timing played some part in it aswell ofcourse. It's not about musical prowess or any of that horseshit, it's about fucking metal. The last line should be shouted by a drunk Manowar fan but it will have to do. The subgenre:a as a whole was spawned out of lack of skill with an instrument for gods sake.

And if their early work sounds like filler to you it's because they were one of the first big thrash acts around. They've been emulated/copied/given homage/whateveryouliketocallit by other metalheads who grew up with Slayer and then started bands of their own. Slayer played a major role in metal history, not liking them is fine, but dismissing them as anything, especially "Guitar hero music", is fucking retarded. They've been worshipped by metalheads for over 20 years.

I actually know the history of thrash rather well and I know of quite a few good thrash bands. I prefer not to name drop (I'm not a fag), but the thrash sub-genre essentially started with Exodus and a few other bands around 1982 and fizzled out by the early nineties. And it's funny that you say I don't like their early discography, when I stated before that their only albums that I can enjoy in remote wholeness are their first three (Show No Mercy, Haunting the Chapel, and Reign in Blood). Nonetheless, every other album consists mostly of mediocre filler that verges on nu metal by their nineties releases. Their influence didn't even matter after Reign in Blood - they were totally irrelevant to the development of black, death, and most thrash metal by then. Slayer's a joke by now. When some obese retard goes on a rant about how great they are (akin to the other retards to obsess over Metallica or Led Zeppelin or what have you), and then screams "SLAYYERRR" while holding up some retarded gesture, they're a fucking joke. Fuck 'em.

Motives? Bitch please, I'm just a little bit annoyed that someone that claims to like metal calls Slayer "guitar hero music". It was half wild musings half rant. Slayers early work was fucking great and most people would agree on me on that, that's all I should've said obviously because this roads leads to nowhere and its not even entertaining for anyone since neither of us are canna.

If I recall correctly, you claimed that you don't like metal.

Yea, that's why I am incoherently trying to defend Slayer and describe a world where jazz fusion is indeed far worse than any mind-numbingly simple metal ever created. No, the simple fact that I put passion over any sort of skill at all makes me a lover of metal by default. That and already I bought the t-shirt.

Plus I'm drunk.

I'm not even such a big fan of heavy metal. . .

Now, I don't know if you're talking about traditional "heavy metal" as a sub-genre or the genre in general, but that's pretty damning.

I didn't actually care what anyone was listening to but from this thread I learned a few things.

1. Everyone has different tastes.

2. Most of those tastes are terrible.

3. No one doesn't like Drum and Bass.

4. Lot a fags here... but I already knew that.
