Weapon Suggestion Thread

I'd say that it has a use over some of the other weapons, like the kitchen knife or your fists, but it's not going to be the next sledgehammer by any means.

This is actually something we've been investigating for a few years now

Gosh, I hope that doesn't mean we have to find earplugs or else tinnitus.

Well, I disagree, not only on the point that the knife is useless, but on the fact that it would serve a better use. But lets' examine this a bit further. In real life, a pool cue lacks enough weight and enough resistance to actually kill a zombie, as my evidence demonstrated. How would it then behave in-game? Let's even say that the devs have implemented weapon degradation, to make things a bit more realistic. Give me your stats.

I believe your best uses would keeping the zombie at bay, not actually attacking it. You would use it more like a pike or spear rather than a club.

Interesting. I could certainly see it as perhaps a modded variant. But if we are going to talk about improvised thrusting weapons, may I show you the power of a steel ice scrapper (Very inexpensive and quite common in places with, well, ice)

And if you skip to about the half way point in the video below, you get a pretty good head-gibbing. I can't think of a good reason this shouldn't be in the game, to be honest.

Yes, this also has it's place in the game. But the pool cue would be much lighter allowing you to carry more weapons as well, giving it an advantage over heavier thrusting weapons.

A Slingshot, with literally unlimited ammo. Thing is you have to get down on your knees for a few seconds to gather ammunition. So if you press "R" to reload you are vulnerable for some time. =) Of course you would be limited in how many usable stones you can pocket.

Rocks ain't gonna do shit launched from a slingshot.

Type 56 Rifle? or is that WAAAAAAAY too close to the AK-47?

How about a few bullpup rifles like the F2000 or OTS-14 or maybe the L85?

How about a nailgun?

Type-56 is a Chinese AK variant. Nothing more, nothing less. The only way you can really tell the difference is the hooded front sight.

I wish I could find an OTS-14 or an L85 legally, then again maybe not. The F2000 does exist in civilian form as the FS2000. Don't know price or availability, though.

That's the point. Everybody around here seems to be afraid of it. Like an AK is going to destroy the game. Also the Type 56 was generally manufactured with a folding bayonet that would fold up into the front hand-guard while the AK-47 had to have one mounted prior to use.

My friend's got an FS2000, so it's not like it's impossible, though i didn't get a price from him. As for the OTS-14 you could make your own derped out version with an AK-74u or the civilian counter-part. The L85 would be seen among British troops, so it's something that the devs might want to consider if there are more maps planned for being set in Europe.

I can't recall if this is certain, but I recall one of the devs being really, really adamant about not having AKs in their game. I thought ol' Czechy was supposed to be a compromise on this subject.

I'm quite sure that I recall the same thing. I also understand why, but I just can't get behind it. It's a gun that appears everywhere*, so in a game that favors realism, it would stand to reason that they should be everywhere*. Also Type 56's are a decently common "souvenir" of Vietnam War vets.

*what i mean to say here is that they are insanely popular.

Now can we get back to more important matters of discussion?

Oh my, it would appear that you have a few spelling mistakes there. Let me fix them for you.

HEY MAXX CAN WE HAVE A VARIETY OF BALANCED, WELL THOUGHT OUT WEAPONS, PRODUCED AT A COMFORTABLE PACE? IT'S OKAY IF YOU AND YOUR TEAM OF HIGHLY TALENTED SLAVES FELLOW DEVELOPERS TAKE YOUR TIME TO PRODUCE FREE CONTENT PURELY OUT OF THE KINDNESS OF YOUR HEARTS AND LOVE FOR THE CRAFT. FRANKLY, ANY CONTENT PRODUCED THAT DOES NOT DETRACT FROM THE ENJOYMENT OF THIS EXPERIENCE IS GREATLY APPRECIATED, BECAUSE WE AS A COMMUNITY ARE JUST SO GRATEFUL FOR YOUR LIMITLESS GENEROSITY IN MAKING THIS GAME FOR US, NOT TO MENTION HOW THANKFUL WE ARE FOR ALLOWING US TO TAKE SOME PART IN SHAPING THIS EXPERIENCE, EVEN IF THE MAJORITY OF OUR SUGGESTIONS ARE PIECES OF TRITE NONESENSE.

NOT the nmrih community hub on steam in a nutshell

Which is really quite the compliment coming from you and your legion of steam-community-hub-cultists of whom you speak on behave of. Granted, it's a bit of an ego stroke, but I agree with your sentiment.

Now can we get back to producing more pieces of trite nonsense? Or is this joke not yet dead? Because I just poked it with a stick, and I think it might have twitched a little. Perhaps the rest of you can keep beating it while the rest of us continue discussing possible weapon types.

Currently I feel we need to approach this from a different angle. Instead of suggesting a weapon and seeing how it would fit in-game, what if we identify gaps in the current gameplay and see what potential weapons could fill them. Although, with 58 pages worth of weapon types I wonder if there is any ground left untread, excluding survivor-crafted weapons, which could probably fill a thread of its' own. Either way, here are a few of the current gaps that I can think up off the top of my head.

Thrusting weapons, for keeping zombies at a distance. Some safety is gained in exchange for poor crowd-control, lower inventory space and a less-viable shove. Currently the bayonet fills this void to some extent, but it's not a full-fledged melee. Possible solutions that have been suggested include the pitchfork (a classic), ice-breakers or fishing hooks *Gaffers I believe they are called, (or perhaps I am thinking of harpoons, hmm.)

Nonlethal weapons, good at controlling zombies but deal low-to-nil damage. They excel in keeping zombies stunned/away, but, of course, cannot kill.

Proper throwing weapons. To fill a mid-range, inexpensive and/or reclaimable melee weapon. I vote for the good ol' brick, but the devs could also give these properties to the kitchen knife if they so desired.

Setting specific weapons. As the maps in NMRiH diversify, and the infection spreads to all corners of the earth, the current selection of weapons might become uncommon. For example, a chainsaw might not be easily found in a under-construction skyscraper, but a cement saw would. These weapons serve the same function as existing weapons, but are more suitable for different environments. I personally think the best way to cross this bridge, when we come to it, is by re-skinning the existing weapons (Well, except the cement saw, I could see that being an issue... it wasn't a good example.)

Hopefully, we can squeeze some more blood from this stone. Either that, or we'll just continue talking in circles. Both are fine with me.

I wasn't exactly thinking about throwing, but I think cinder blocks could be a potential melee weapon (and throwing I 'spose).

Cinder blocks aren't exactly the easiest thing to throw around. I mean, sure you can do it, but can everybody just pick one up and throw? Naw, people are lazy, so they can't lift(or throw) like they used to. On the opposite of that, we've also got more body builders than a teenager has zits thanks to 'roids and unrealistic self-images. But taking all of that into account, the average person in america is weaker and fatter than they were even twenty years ago. I could bash with a cinder block, but i definitely wouldn't attempt to throw it.

I've got a specific question and suggestion for that SU-16. Id like to know the plans for it as far as aesthetics. Is it going to be fully customized? Completely stock? Somewhere in between? My suggestion is that you make a version with a small magazine and a scope and then one with a large magazine and only iron sights. The guns would perform similarly, but the scoped one would also have a longer stock, making it slower to bring up the sight but reducing the recoil while scoped. The idea of making two versions is that the SU-16 is highly modifiable, like many kel-tec guns, so it's likely that you'd find allot of weird combinations of mods.
