Destroyed Items

14 posts in this topic

Something I thought would be a nice addition is the ability to destroy weapons and items with certain things like explosions

I keep thinking that eventually someone is going to try and kill me for items that I carry, all I got is a Knife, a hand grenade and first aid kits, about 3 of them that I'm collecting for a group of allied injured players that are a couple of blocks away. He on the other hand is armed with a Shotgun.

I say to the guy I'm will hand him a first aid kit but that ain't good enough, he wants all of it. Eventually some of his "friends" come along and help him out. They approach my hideout and with no escape I attempt to make it harder for them, they're probably gonna kill me anyway so I take the grenade and warn them that I'm holding a live grenade, killing me would resort in destroying all or some of the items I carry making them useless to them and all they did was waste breath and ammunition in killing me.

Breaking items from explosions or fire would be semi-realistic and add to gameplay value, player's could still pick them up but they would be unusable and would merely allow for wasted space, I suspect a player could still club a zombie or another player with a broken weapon but not be able to shoot it. This would make people think twice before attacking a player for items or weapons as that player can destroy said weapons to prevent them from using it.

Not sure how I feel about that idea, it sounds cool on paper.

blah blah blah "the rest" *saving space*

i think its a good idea, and maybe to add realism, maybe fall damage could damage them also? I don't mean one story high, but maybe three would damage an item or weapon. not destroy them completely.

I don't see how this would work ingame, who would toss a weapon or any useful equipment out of a building?

This is a necessary step toward uber-realism, but for zombie gameplay purposes, I don't see it being worth the work it would take to implement.

i dunno, if the toilets don't work, you might as well take a dump outside your window.

The Dev's aren't expecting the Zombie's to be the only threat, other players are also the threat that many people would face in a realistic survival setting, looters, raiders, crazed citizens or that insane sniper in the top window that blasts anything, human or zombie with his sniper rifle.

Destroying or damaging an item would prevent another player from using it, giving a player a choice. Destroy my items to prevent a hostile threat from using it or prevent other's from stealing it, the chance of damaging items is slim depending on amount of explosives you can find (i would add fire as a means to destroy items but that's going a bit too far towards a possible griefing measure).

I like the idea of a weapon falling and breaking for a few stories high, it's not so much that you find someone purposesly throwing a weapon off the roof but potential people that die on a roof and there weapon slides off the side, which in some source games it happens a lot, especially if player's can reach rooftops more easily.

And who cares if your shit breaks?

But seriously, who would throw away guns even if it's out of ammo?

Accident, or maybe to prevent someone they don't want to getting their hands on it.

"If i can't use these guns, NO ONE ELSE WILL!!!"

Well, if that'll ever happen, i'd kill that person myself with my wooden ladle.

Say your playing with friends and you invite them into a public server, there's several player's at the moment and two them are acting rogue and killing people for powerful weapons, leaving those with weak weapons alone. You decide to stop them from stealing your guns by destroying or hiding them in secret places you would know, like throwing one into a fire, off a tall building or blow one up. Or hiding a weapon instead under a box or in a small vent or corner, places where a person wouldn't normally suspect to find it. This way it prevents the people killing you for a powerful weapon and stopping them from spoiling the game for you and your friends.

It's just a though, but finding broken weapons in the game could create some interesting scenarios, like an Assault rifle in the middle of a street next to a police car when you pick it up however, it's broken and cannot be used for anything else but clubbing weapon.

I would take those guns and use it against them, not throw them away.

And how would hiding a gun damage it if i place it in a box or in the vent?

Interesting, and/or you could use it to as a trap and lure other unsuspecting players. :P

It would also create an interesting scenario. Say that, for instance, a crazed sniper is firing at random people, and suddenly the gunfire stops. You and your friend go to check out what happened, and find a broken sniper rifle at the bottom of the building. You then head up and see lots of blood, but no body. Then a low moan...

What if that gun didn't have any ammo in it? Not all the gun's are likely to be pre-loaded with shells like common shooters, they're most likely gonna be empty when you find them or have very little ammo in them.

But lets say another guy with a gun has ammo for the gun you found, he kills you for it and ends up with an even more powerful gun plus ammo. You can either A) hide it in a vent or under a box for later use or B) destroy it to prevent the player from using it.

I like this idea, broken guns after a guy got into a scuffle with a zombie. If he's leaning on a balcony or just off a window ledge, he could drop the gun when a zombie grabs him from behind, thus causing the rifle to fall out of the window and break.
