Being able to see your legs

22 posts in this topic

Well i was wondering if you were going to make the mod where you could look down and see your legs, i always thought it was cool and made it realistic when other games just make you floating arms with guns. so if you are then ignore this but i think it would be really cool/ just putting that out there

No but I did the same thing for source a while back. Also I got lazy with the model and didn't remove the arms.

Well I am not a coder for Nmrih but if Maxx wants it implemented I am 100% ssba is talented enough to get it implemented.

I always wondered why most games don't include the chest of the player, only the legs

like in the halo games it always seemed a bit unrealistic to only be able to see your legs

It would probably make it harder to implement, but then also more realistic

We're definitely looking in to this. I've been talking with ssba about it for a long while. When we have the time to focus on "flavoring" (non-game crucial things) ssba and Surfa will tackle the legs.

That sounded hot.

We've already discussed this. We get the legs, you get the uh.. pelvic region.

I'm for this. (As if I have a say, lol) Halo was probably the first FPS I played that actually showed the legs realistically. I remember messing around for hours being mesmerized by such detail.

First time I played Halo, I somehow managed to stick a plasma grenade onto my foot. By accident.

It was amusing, to say the least.

The reason has to do with perspective control. Screens are flat and only encompass a certain rectangular area. Human vision is curved and our viewing area is circular/oval. This results in a natural "feeling" perception of depth-of-self.

This is very, very difficult to achieve in games due to the reasons I stated above.

Yeah, I did this too.

I spun around staring at my feet in Ouu and Ahh.

Wow, that was a really good game.

I wish I had my copy back, I sold it.

While that looks cool, in a game like this I don't think it would be necessary. I'm assuming it's all close quarters combat, so just turning would be easier.

The only time I love having that "Looking Around" thing, is in driving games to be honest. It works great in Midnight Club: LA, Project Gotham, etc...

Yeah without a specialised screen or projector it would be very hard for any game designer to achieve the same sense of realism.

Thank you for your explanation :)

I don't understand the obsession about being able to see your "feet" ingame, i can't even see mine IRL.
