Warning to system builders

17 posts in this topic

Whatever you do when building a system stay the fuck away from Crucial ram

When i first got my system I started getting blue screens after awhile.etc, so i suspected the ram and did a memory test which seemed to show one of the slots on the motherboard was faulty, so i RMA'd it

2 Weeks later...

Got a brand new motherboard and got another 2gigs (4 gigs :D) of crucial ballistix had no problems for months. One day i was greeted with another blue screen upon waking up after a night of downloading.

After awhile i decided to do another memory test, except when i tried booting the computer up into the mem test program, it didnt turn the fuck on

£50 later after just under a week at the pc repair shop : / turns out the motherboard has blown....... (suspected the power supply)

Apparently there's been a wide spread problem with These sticks of ram.

Means ive gotta RMA the motherboard again.... and RMA the ram, which is gonna put me back another two weeks when i have school work.etc on that hard drive + il just have to sell the "fixed" sticks that Crucial are gonna send back on ebay because they're likely to be useless as well

RAAAAAAAGGGGEEEEEEEEEE :angry::angry::angry:

No.

OCZ, Corsair and Mushkin are the three best brands.

Kingston is alright yet they've been known to have RAMDAC issues in the past.

I'm using 2 gigs of OCZ platinum2 or whatever and it's fine runs cool never had a problem with them. In fact the only reason my PC ever crashes is the video card, and I'm not sure if it's because nVidia just plain fails at making decent drivers or if it's a heating issue and I really doubt its the latter because my case has sufficient cooling and even thought its a stock cooler the fans always running at 80-100% (using riva tuner, nifty tool, should get if you don't have and it's free)

I like all my components actually and other than upping the ram to 4 gigs and then e7200 max as far as I remember was cool with the components when I bought them. Now adays my PC would be a horrible buy (8800gt 250gigHDD epds3l gigabyte motherboard)...Uhhh what was this topic about again? Oh yeah crucial ram sucks, anyways buy OCZ next time you buy ram.

nVidia makes the best and by far the most stable video drivers, they run unparalleled in smooth operation and stability. Try reinstalling, check for the latest WHQL signed driver on their site or maybe try one of the beta pre-release drivers?

First of all you work at R*, not nVidia (that post makes you sound like a salesperson/pitch), and second of all I am using the latest WHQL drivers. It might've been something else. It wasn't a blue screen, but the whole PC locked up and everything went greenish static shit or something.

The other thing I don't like is that nVidia doesn't supports dual monitors in Vista (not 2 monitors, they do, what I mean is both monitors being combined into one ginormous one) is pretty bullshit.

You're wrong again Ghettoshit.

One of my positions at Rockstar is Junior IT. I'm very well acquainted with versions of drivers from both ATI and nVidia that are months away from seeing the light of day, let alone your standard WHQL and pre-release ones.

Your issue sounds like a hardware failure more than anything else.

And I am using two 24" monitors hooked up to my nVidia GPU on Vista running in extended desktop mode which is what you were referring to, so don't give me that shit.
