It is believed that gene therapy could heal an infection. Yet no one has understood what it feels like to use a gene therapy without actually having experienced it. For the record, gene therapy has not only caused many side effects, and also damages a person's psychological health. Those who survives the effect, restore from infection completely; those didn't, will suffer a greater damage than becoming the dead.

This map is a story of a group of crews trying to survive after a catastrophic incident. While it's clear that infectious matters are involved, details about the incident still remained unknown to them. They don't know what is waiting for them ahead. Nevertheless, they decided to reach out for help. After having successfully contacted a rescue team and been told to stay still, they took the gene therapy as a solution for the infection. And that is where the story begins.

Game tips:

-Your goal is to "expand" the dimension. The higher the dimension is the closer to victory.

-Kill zombies to "expand" and secure the dimension. The more this dimension is widened, the clearer the reality will be.

-If the number of existing zombies is too high, the dimension will "collapse" and falls. You will hear heartbeats as an indication of the zombie number. If heartbeat speeds up, it means zombie number is increasing. Sustain the heartbeat at a low rate.

-When the dimension expands, everyone at the same level will "jump" up together. However, when the dimension collapses, there is no guarantee that people at the same level will go down together and those who didn't succeed the action will be stuck at a temporary dimension fault. The fault happens because you are in an area where the lower dimension does not cover (dimensions are larger than the dimensions below it) . So make sure when the heartbeat gets out of control, you will go back to the area where you dimension-jump up from. If you happen to be stuck at the fault, only survivors who successfully jumped down could reverse the dimension and get back up to meet at the dimension you are stuck at.

-See the gun shapes on walls? These are free ammo! (9mm only) Press E on them. Though they have cool-down time of 30 seconds. You are supposed to get an m92fs on spawn. If not, let me know. It'd be a bug.

Need help with testing:

-If you are stuck in an object after expand/collapse, report the spot you are at.

=======================Spoiler alert=====================

Known bug:

-When you play the map on a server and reach the final dimension, you will see boss npc T-pose. This is normal to servers, because the npc animations are client-sided, you can see the animations only when you play it solo. Therefore I want to address this to all mappers: Don't expect npcs to perform any sort of custom animation on a server platform, they will T-pose! And yes, I did packrat the animation template model which, unfortunately, didn't solve the problem.

A strange and spooky map. It's fairly complicated but once you figure it out it's pretty interesting. Got some major Call of Duty vibes playing, and the Cry of Fear album is a nice touch although I'm not certain it's worth the file size. I hope your future maps are a little more traditional in my opinion. You mentioned you did this in 4 days so I can't wait to see how the final product looks.

I've used a lot of game_texts in this level and most of the time they are used in separate channels, so I'm afraid there aren't enough game_text channels to represent the digits.

Thanks for the advice tho.

nmo_dimension_b1=================================

-added power-up drops from zombie
-added a visual clue for the heartbeat

-added warning text when you are nearby an exploding Monkey Bomb
-Monkey Bomb damage increased

-Mystery Box costs more hp
-the boss could no longer be ignited and gets health-hacked, feel free to disprove me with molotov, flaregun or whatever.

-the boss's hp increased
-remove all ammo walls in the final dimension, because of "realism"
-fixed a spawn where zombies change color after they spawn (I think)

-fixed places that could easily get stuck on
-enhanced overall spookiness to strengthen the theme of the map.
-some toilet simulators
-some ocd changes

First off I'd like to say that you have a great map that's really unique! But there is a bug and a few Issues that I'd like to address.

Bug: I can get infected by zombies and in the story you told me that we took gene therapy, so maybe give people gene therapy when they spawn?

Issues/Suggestions: (I played 500+ hours and know what makes a good nmo from a bad one but u still don't have to listen to me if u don't want too xD)

  • So the main Issue I have is the way you move up/down a dimension is too similar to an nms map where if ur zone gets overruned then u go down a dimension and if u kill enough zombies then you go up a dimension. The main reason a lot of vets like nmo is because it feels like you're actually in the apocalypse because you have to survive and maneuver through the zombies to get necessities done to survive and the only time you loose is when you die as your friends are dying around you instead of being forced to endlessly kill zombies linearly like in nms and have an uneventful failure by not killing zombies fast enough. Also nms hinders your ability to solo since 1 person can only kill zombies so fast.

Discussion: Maybe make it so you loose if your whole team gets killed by the zombies, otherwise go up a dimension? This might screw up your going down a dimension since you loose the game if you all die, but you can make the dimensions harder like maybe increase the chance of runners as you go up dimensions since you are adopting a lot of mechanics from COD zombies. Regardless, I feel like it will give the map a more scary and satisfying feel since you are fighting to stay alive when the zombies are overwhelming u or die trying! Also this would make solo players especially happy as they wouldn't reach a certain dimension where they can't kill the zombies fast enough to move on.

  • No heals between dimensions

Discussion: So if you implement that your whole team gets to go up a dimension then it wouldn't really be fair for the sole survivor to have 6 hp in the next dimension, although I've only made it to dimension 5 so far soloing so if there are heals later on then it could be fine the way it is.

Thanks for taking the time to read my post and I hope you take the time to make this map even better than it already is!

Thanks for playing!

Addressing the suggestions:

1. Story-wise I don't want things to turn meta, taking gene therapy while you are in gene therapy session seems to be going to too deep and infinite, so I intensionally not putting any infection treatment in this map. My thinking is that if a person is in an infection, one of the biggest challenges is to overcome its mental effect. Think about a person having a cancer, if he keeps reminding himself he is gonna die of cancer, he will. So if a person is infected in this illusionary dimensions that means (as far as the story going) he does not have a strong mind.

2. I will increase each dimension's difficulty per player's death/ dimension collapse. So if too much of your team is dead or that your team has failed too many dimensions, the game would hardly go on. In addition I will add respawn as a power-up drop so there is likelyhood that the alive revive the deads by picking up an item from the zombie.

3. Yes I will make every one back on full health during dimension five's respawn

Thank you! I appreciate your feedback for the map. I will do the best I can to fix the issues.
