Crafting System

8 posts in this topic

Please hear me out on this before commenting "butt dis isnt moynkraft m8". Thanks. Also if you think this is stupid then go ahead and think that. c:

Anyways, here's the idea/suggestion:
I think what would be neat is the ability to find several scrap items, such as rags, duct tape, and such, and use them in combination with certain items to craft new items such as weapon attachments. Similar to the crafting system in recent games such as Alien: Isolation, The Last Of Us, or Fallout 3+New Vegas.
I know NMRIH is a slight bit too fast paced for it, but I still think it'd be neat nonetheless.
Here are a few examples I came up with (MIGHT ADD MORE):

Bayonetless SKS + Duct Tape + Kitchen Knife = Bayonet-clad SKS (With a different model than the regular SKS with Bayonet, maybe.)

Firearm (Any firearm, maybe with a few exceptions) + Duct Tape + Laser Pointer (perhaps a new one of these 'scrap' items that can be found around the map) = [Firearm] with Laser Pointer

Empty Bottle + 20 Fuel + Rag = Molotov Cocktail

[Firearm] + Flashlight + Duct Tape x2 (because flashlight is heavy) = [Firearm] with Flashlight

So yeah, this is the little suggestion/idea/thing I came up with. Take of it what you will.

I had a version of boardwalk where you could craft Molotovs.

It was quite silly.

I don't see it fitting into NMRiH very well though. Perhaps as a special objective or map-specific feature, but not as a core system. There's enough cluttering the inventory as it is without people loading their pockets full of dirty socks and bars of soap.

The problem is this isn't an easy thing to do especially in the source the amount of work involved is actually quite scary

Not only that, but we have countlessly refused the idea of Crafting as NMRiH rounds do not take long for something that you took effort to craft that you would use only for 5 minutes. It is too pointless in the end.

Although, there is weapon variants being worked on which is something similar. Same weapons except a few different things with them, and they are already 'crafted' if you catch my meaning.

To be specific, there will be things like an SKS without the bayonet, Sako without the scope (ironsights), certain firearms with different magazine sizes, stocks, barrels and so on. This somewhat serves as a simple downgraded alternative to crafted weapons. (Except, we are not going far enough to have lasers, flashlights and any what you call 'tacticool' equipments and attachments to our weapons. Things will be kept simple but interesting.)

Oh, okay. I figured it wouldn't be added, I just thought it to be a neat idea and decided to post it to see how people thought of it.

It would only really be a thing people would use often in Survival or something. Perhaps tables where people can craft, similar to Medical Crates.

Crafting makes sense for survival gamemode while for objective not so much and it is a good idea and can be implemented if there is a will and caution to make the code/script more complicated for no good reason and it is sort of done already with having a pistol and a flashlight plus the framework is already there and is constantly being used in all games yet people love to complicate things rather than use logic.

I might be one of those few people that actually likes these ideas. For me, if you can do it in real life, then I would like to see it in the game. I mean, WHO wouldn't craft molotovs in a zombie outbreak? It's not like we all have access to guns.

And my sessions take long enough, I don't play with people who rush and turn every map into a 5-10 minutes game.
