All round artist (First person primarily)

13 posts in this topic

Hello ladies

My name is Gordon (Ossian) Astley

I'm applying for working as an all round artist, but would prefer working on the first person side of things.

My skills and experience:

Animation - 6 years

Rigging - 6 years

Modeling - 6 years

Sculpting - 3.5 years

Retopology and UVs - 3.5 years

Level design - 12.5 years

Particle effects - 5 years

(More Generalised)

Character Design

Environmental Art

For rigging and Animation I work with 3DS MAX and Maya, Modeling I use Max... yes you. Sculpting and Retopology I use Zbrush and 3D Coat, Level design I work with Unreal Engine for the most part and unfortunately never really got into Source, but if it's required for any particular reason, I'm willing to learn. Particle effects I've again only done within Unreal Engine, and mainly for environmental effects.

Work Examples

Sculpting:

I'm not too proud of this arm or hand as it was rushed since it was needed in a short period of time.

This one was a speed sculpt requested by IIopn

Things may look oddly shaded or scaled, but perspective is disabled and the matcaps define varying features.

Rigging:

Animations:

This one sucks I know but it's my only preview render I've actually kept and yeah the return to idle is crap.

Now regarding level design, environmental art and character design, I can't show most of the stuff I did, at leas the more recent work which actually looks any good, as it's all under NDA's and unfortunately the people the work was for, complained at me and asked me not to show.. which is kind of annoying (kind of being an understatement)

I'll see if I can find more work.

The Beretta animation looks really cool, but kind of "odd" as the slide-back part feels like it's not there. I just feel it should have more focus on it (as in, not to have anything else move on axises at the same time).

You could definitely work with Rock on rigging and animation especially of characters which are atrocious on the animation front at the moment.

We don't have a lot of work for artists who can't do their own textures, our pipeline doesn't really have room for it since we have no dedicated "texture artist" - everyone so far has done their own so if you did modeling, we'd have to pair you with someone to do the texturing and I don't know who that would be.

Yeah I've helped him with texturing before on some different projects. He's better than me at retopology and UV mapping. So after that stuff is done texturing will be a breeze.
