Sniper Rifle :o

There will be a rifle. But it's going to a more common "hunting rifle" that most hunters would have. Don't expect any high-powered military ones though.

No, no you can't.

But, will there be rifles left over from maybe national guard or something?

There will be certain weapons left over, but a sniper rifle is not planned in that respect.

How handy would a sniper rifle end up being anyway? We're talking congested city streets and subway stations, from what the team has released. And the zombies move quick, if memory serves.

And slow! Whenever the slow ones get put in.

NMRiH is different in that aspect, we've got the slow ones to scare you, and the fast ones to come out of nowhere and eat you alive, or at least, push you into more slow ones.

It's like...Zombie teamwork. Except they're all undead and wanting to eat you.

I don't see how slow zombies are really scary, that's what's always perplexed me about the Resident Evil series. A lot of people are terrified by it, yet you can very easily outrun the game's cannon fodder. Zombies that move slowly and then RUSH at you generally freak people out more, if you look at the Zombines in Half-Life and the Puppets in Thief 3.

I don't think the fear comes from being able to outrun them. It comes from a wall of them blocking you from getting where you are going, like down a hallway or through a city street. And since you have limited ammo, you probably won't be blasting all of them. Meanwhile, you're focusing on how to get around this wall of dead, when two runners come up behind you and really mix things up.

One walker may not be scary, but there's rarely just one of them.

I wouldn't call it scary, I'd call it a barrier. And in Resident Evil, that doesn't happen anyway. Now, if you were being backed into a corner, it'd be panic time. Otherwise... meh.

Maybe the National Guard would have old Springfield 1903's (lol I'm exaggerating) but certainly not a Barrett .50cal.

Just play Killing Floor for UT2004 to get a little taste of what NMRiH will be like.

I agree that slow zombies aren't "scary" but you will be like "Noooooo!" when you get cornered by +30 zombies and franticly start shooting them but off-course they'll just keep coming and you'll run out of ammo.

Thats the thrill with slow massive amounts of zombies, they just keep coming and eventually you'll get cornered and die.

It would be cool however with a hunting-rifle without a scope, maybe a mosin-nagant? They were mass produced, and can be bought for less than $70. Seeing as there are like 35 million rifles in circulation, it wouldn't be THAT strange to find one.

Besides, mosins are HOT:

Edit:

THEY EVEN HAVE A BAYONET! :D

If at all. I mean, it's more of a fast paced, close range kinda thing anyway so what good is a sniper going to be, especially if your on the move.

Well, there may occasionally be objectives to complete on the maps, and having someone with a rifle to cover you as you move through a dangerous part of town could help. Not that I expect that kind of teamwork/situation to be common, but at least one rifle seems warranted just in case.

Yeah, i'd say a more common bolt rifle.

More common than a mosin?

37 million were made from 1891 to 1965.

thats million.

I'm sure one or two or a couple mil are still floating around somewhere. In fact, I think reaperman had one up until a few months ago, when he sold it for some random car parts or a camaro or what have you :P

I am pretty sure a Camaro is a bunch of random car parts. :P

My question is, how often or not will you be able to use the rifle? Ya, on congested city streets, a bolt action rifle isn't the best choice. However, since this is up to the map maker, could you make it up high enough where your safe enough to pop a few heads. Or even on the sparsely populated streets, frankly I'd rather pick'em off at a distance.

However, on the opposite side of the mix, the three game types are barricade, which the rifle will have limited use I would imagine, extermination, which I doubt you want to pick them off at a distance, and escape. Escape is probably the only time I could see to use a rifle, but since your on the run, I do not want to be the one in the back.

Could it be possible to have a mix? Some with scopes, some without?

It's not so much "how much will we use it" but "would we find it if we go to someones house".

By the way it would be a nice support weapon if someone has to run accros the street (and again) I refer to Killing Floor, I've been saved plenty of times by the Winchester (the longrange weapon of choice there).

Picking off zombies to help someone get from A to B is really fun.

I could see it being used in a barricade map. You barricade up, a couple people watch the 1st floor entrances, and someone goes up stairs with a rifle and takes out as much as they can from a window.

There won't be a Sniper rifle, just more common hunting rifles...

Which reminds me, as far I can remember on the "old site" from the NMRiH Bible it said there was only one hunting rifle, a Browning Coey .22, any chance of a second Hunting rifle using a bigger calibre than .22?
