[WIP] nmo_jail leftover map

hello

if there is old people still here, they will remember this map.

I got no luck to make zombie spawn points work so I'm left this map ages ago.

I'm interested this mod very much, and installed it again yesterday. there is a lot of changes now.

I heard there is new version coming out... too exited.

its partial map but I spent a lot of time to make it work and I really want to see this map finished if there is anyone want help me? (specially good mappers) or want to use it for better map?

walkthrough: (spoiler)

when you start in jail you will see cracked wall smash it and go to other cell

smash the sink and take the wood

now you will see there is a gas leak from the pipes

put the wood there few seconds

jail doors will be open and water should start spread around

there is a cell number on the wall use it to go through the vent system

go down and map will be completed when you see bright light with broken ladders

I stuck with zombie spawners, its very hard to make it work for me, also if I do, it make no sense when you look behind and see zombie spawned from nowhere.

I'm not sure how to make objectives too. as you can see there is a escape from jail with wooden stick there is no point to use it since player got his own lighter now.

problems... problems....

I'm not good with source mapping much, worked with goldsrc before and I want a little professional map like official nmrih maps

nope but looks like I have to check forums more :)

when I make this map I remember devs. said spawning feature is buggy and its going to update soon, probably its much better now. I like survival maps and I think I will gonna make one of them sometime.

I wont lie, I think best survival map made in this mod nms_flooded, thats the map I played first time (long time ago) and it make me feel "I'm gonna die soon or a later" ;) barricading everywhere and gone scavenge resources since everybody for his own. no one share his pills and im turned. Thats what I want from this game.. challenge

If you are going to make a survival map watch gregs tutorials first. That's how I learned to make a survival map.
This map you made here is setup as an nmo not an nms.

well thats very detailed cell now actually bookshelf furnitures a little too much for this tiny and dirty place atleast comfortable enough to live in zombie apocalypse :D also there is no ladder to upper bed. what you will do with that npc guy over there?

Some prisons/jails allow desks and of course books and board-games/card games etc. They even have a "store" you can order stuff from, like food, clothing, cigarettes, radios, books, cards, board games, even TVs.

The desk is creative liberty but not detached from reality:

Yea. I guess it'd be one of the safest places to be as long as you have a way to get out and back in.

The npc is just a dynamic prop with an animation playing. And since I can't figure out how to get a fully functioning npc in the map he just stands there.

I have him say "Excuse me" when you walk by and when you get close enough he'll say, "Shouldn't we be doing something?" ...

"I'll wait here."

dont get me wrong its not a complainant, in the real life I have no idea what is prison looks like, only some knowledge from media, tv etc. you can do it whatever you like. im sure it will be great, curious to see where this goes..

If you're trying to get zombies to spawn then open up hammer editor, put zombie spawners wherever you want, save the map, run the map from hammer editor, then create a server and open developer console (to enable this go to keyboard -> advanced -> enable developer console). Now that you have developer console open type in nav_generate so the zombies will have a path to follow and it should work. Good luck :D

I upgraded some textures adding bump maps and parallax maps.

I'm also working on the geometry so there will be few straight razor-sharp edges.

Whoa, slow down man, not everything needs to have bump maps. I mean, are they in a Jail or a Cave? And why do your ceilings look like... wet sand? The old ceiling textures could probably have been re-worked into something better. A little Tactile Contrast is good for the soul.

I'll have to say that it looks very good, even though it looks like things got soaked very recently. I have to agree that the ceiling looks a tad too shiny, although again if dampness what you're shooting for you got it spot on.

You're EXCELLENT at beautifying Caleb :D

Oh, no. I'm not going for the damp look. I'm still adjusting the envmaptint and contrast trying to find the sweet spot, and the 2nd to last image is in an area where I haven't fixed the lighting yet so it's at stock settings with a brown orange color.

I made a new normal map and parallax map for the ceiling but haven't tested it out yet.

indeed it looks good but I got big concern about frame rate for slower computers (like me) parallax map and bump map is advanced features. you made some progress for overall level? details can be added later I think

You can type mat_parallaxmap 0 and mat_specular 0 into the dev console if it's too much.

This is progress for the overall map. You start at the beginning and work your way down. It gets too confusing to jump around the map working on multiple things in one map.

It's going to be a while before it's done, like 2 - 4 months.
