What's Your Fav, and Why?

10 posts in this topic

Really I'm just making this thread to breathe some life into the forum, it's been quiet lately.

The "why" isn't actually required if you can't think of any valid reasons. So, what is your favorite:

Player Model?

Objective Map?

Survival Map?

Handgun?

2-handed Gun?

Melee Weapon?

For me personally, Molotov because I think he looks the coolest, looks the most "survivor"-y of them in my opinion with his knit hat, gloves, backpack, and jacket, but more so with his pre-steam release skin, not as much with the new one. I miss that old machete he had on his backpack.

Favorite objective map would be Chinatown for me, because I'm a nostalgic fanboy and it reminds me of the countless hours I poured into practicing the other maps until I was finally good enough to tackle the behemoth that was the longest map at the time (when there was only broadway, cabin, and chinatown). Such a long (once) challenging map filled with detail. I don't even mind that there's no branching objectives. For me personally I get a lot of enjoyment out of joining public servers and trying to see how many newbies I can escort to and from the end without them getting killed.

Favorite Survival Map is tough. I really love camp blood (so campy, I love it), Isolated, and NotLD. NotLD was my favorite, but I'm not so much a fan of the current snowy version, so that's gonna cost some points (sorry Payne). Then there's Camp Blood, which just makes me feel right at home with one of my favorite slasher series ("KI-KI-KI! MA-MA-MA!"), but I think my favorite might just be isolated, because all of my memories associated with it when it came out when I was finishing up High School, which was at least a thousand years ago.

Favorite Handgun is the classic 1911. Nice and reliable, and feels powerful. Although I personally wish that it had the brown grip like it did in the old concept pictured below, but I fixed that myselfNMRiH_1911Colt45.jpg

Favorite 2-handed gun has got to be the M16 because I have a sexual fetish for that gun its decent range, reliability, and ammo isn't too too hard to come across.

Favorite melee weapon is the mighty fireaxe, simply because it just feels nice to destroy shit with it, although it is kind of an "easy mode" weapon.

So, what about you guys? What're your favorites?

Character: Jive.

I am a sucker for anyone in a suit jacket.

Objective map: Lakeside

I am still getting new experiences from that map. The objective web must be insane. And there's still a section I have never even SEEN outside of spectator mode.

Survival map: Silence

Who doesn't love fending of waves of zombies in an old church? Not to mention one as expertly crafted as this one.

Handgun: 357 revolver

Got to love that bullet penetration! A wondrous sidearm that rewards accuracy and forethought.

2 handed gun: Winchester

Take the magnum, and give it an extended clip size. That's a winning combination.

Melee: Hammer.

Do you really need to ask?

Player Model? Wally,I like his beard and he pretty much looks badass,I combine him with Kenneth's voice set and I get the ultimate badassery, gonna have to wait for any upcoming player models that suit my taste, certainly none from the 3 new 1.08 ones. :P

Objective Map? Upcoming nmo_cleopas,gotta love the scavenging and the design on it,difficulty is decent and not too easy (like toxteth),just everything in that map is perfect.

Survival Map? nms_notld,a LOT of fun in that map, just the snow that bothers me,without it everything would have been perfect ( why Payne :[ ).

Handgun? Colt M1911,classic,powerful,and nice looking, all I got to say.

2-handed Gun? Upcoming FN FAL,I think you know why.

Melee Weapon? Baseball Bat,great blowback, decent damage but not too powerful (or too weak as well) so it's easy,I like something with a challenge, also has great animations, made by THECOUNTER (awesome talented dude whom I know),horizontal and vertical swipe attacks are real perfect.

Player Model?

I think this would be Butcher, out of all the characters, he seems to be the most bland out of the other survivor models, this I like. In addition his appearance make me think he goes "IM TOO OLD FOR THIS SHIT" all the time. :P

Objective Map?

Possibly NMO_Cleopas, its exploratory nature feels at home in the survival horror genre that nmrih nestles itself in. From a level design standpoint, Cleopas is also a technically impressive map, what with the principle of "less is more" at play in it. Also, I like the british aesthetic :3

Survival Map?

NMS_Northway, The way it gives players choices (on which zones to defend) as well as the presence of "mini-objectives" in the map is highly appreciated. An extensive maze-like design makes the map a lot more challenging, especially to players new to the game giving them a challenge finding their way from one end to another while at the same time rewarding exploration of the many rooms and closets that litter the map.

Handgun?

The Glock 17 takes this cake, being approximately the same mass as other handguns, while having a gigantic clip size and using very common 9mm ammo makes it a nice choice pick up whenever one appears.Usually used as a backup to a more personal and powerful 2 handed melee weapon.

2-handed Gun?

Beretta SV10, GENTLEMEN, FEAST YOUR EYES ON THIS EXQUISITE BOOMSTICK. The long range of the shotgun works in tandem with the EXTREMELY low clip size. It works in favor of my playstyle as it forces ammo conservation whether I have reserves or not, leading to relatively efficient and skillfully placed multikill shots and topping it all off with a kickass reload animation. :D

Melee Weapon?

Definitely the E-tool, Being relatively light, a heavy hitter in pickaxe mode and the its posession of unique properties and appearance makes it a very attractive choice whenever it is available. Very often i find myself in a dilemma choosing an E-tool or a one handed melee weapon. :P

Wow, seems a lot of people like NMO_Cleopas... not like I was already anxious to get my hands on it before.

Player Model?

I prefer Bateman, since he goes well with the fireaxe & chainsaw - kind of like a cosplay.

Objective Map?

Gameplay wise it's nmo_sweden, because it's the most challenging objective map I've played so far. Challenge keeps it interesting.

nmo_junction has the best ambience.

Survival Map?

nms_campblood. There are a lot of side objectives and the extraction is unmatched by any other map.

Handgun?

Probably the s&w. .357 has amazing penetration.

2-handed Gun?

That's got to be the CZ858. It has no 3D scope that gets in the way.

Melee Weapon?

The lead pipe (pre nerf). Its short swings provide very good DPS and you never run out of stamina.

Player Model?

The one from The Big Lebowsky Movie :D

Objective Map?

Lots of maps. But is Dead Labs (too bad the mapper never fixed the bugs, is an awesome map). But if we talking of an official map.. Lakeside. I Like the many routes option.

Survival Map?

Maybe Northway, i Like big maps.

Handgun?

Colt 1911 Baby

2-handed Gun?

No one specially. But i like shotguns. Remgminton FWT

Melee Weapon?

Big Fucking Axe (FireAxe) You never get tired, get runers by 1 hit and dont need any fire weapon

Too lazy to copy paste.

Just Quote and edit answers :P

Player Model
Molotov, out of all the character he's the one who actually looks like a believable survivor form the zombie apocalypse with his bag full of stuff. Gotta love the bag.

Objective Map
Chinatown, it was my favourite back in the day when there was only 3 maps, and still is today. The level itself is well thought out, the objectives are interesting, and in my opinion out of all the maps is the most successful in pulling off the true urban feel. Memories of constantly replaying this map in an attempt to try and beat it, made the success of beating it all the more satisfying. I remember at times when the devs were still tweaking zombie numbers (back in 1.02 or 1.03) and there were so many zombies that Chinatown became absolutely impossible. A lot of good memories come with this map, and is imo the NMRiH objective map, if not map overall.

Survival Map
Northway, this map truly gave me the true scavenging for supplies feel in survival, with tonnes of areas to explore in the overall big map. The well placed defence points also made choosing which area to defend a hard decision to make with each defence points having their advantages and disadvantages. Though what made this map for me, was the gathering of supplies and sorting and organising them in the early rounds, I personally didn't get this experience with other maps because either all the supplies were in a small area together, or there just weren't any supplies at all to begin with, or there were so many supplies it felt unrealistic. Northway got the balance right. The mini-objectives, like getting the welder and unwelding the gun shop and pharmacy as well as finding the codes, are also great.

Handgun

Aesthetics wise I prefer the .357 revolver as nothing is more satisfying then getting double penetration shots, and pulling back that hammer. But unfortunately in a gameplay aspect it's not as good as its competitors with it having a low magazine capacity, low fire rate and being the heaviest handgun out of all of them.
Gameplay wise the Colt 1911 is my favourite, with a reliable sized magazine, one shot head shot killing potential, high fire rate and light weight makes it my go to gun for when I want to actually succeed.

2 Handed Gun
The lever action .357 Winchester. With it having the satisfying feel that all manually operated guns have (lever, bolt and pump action guns), as well as the fire rate and damage to back it up. Although it's extremely heavy for what it is (a 16 round revolver), the fact that it uses the common .357 ammo type and has a 16 round magazine (compared to the meagre 6 round magazine of the revolver) makes me pick this gun over all of the other 2 handed guns.

Melee Weapon
The machete used to be my go to melee weapon but ever since it got nerfed in 1.07 I've started to gravitate towards the crowbar. The crowbar has the advantage of being a one handed weapon (so flashlight use, and light weight), and has one of the highest damages of the one handers, with having a 2 shot kill potential. The swing range means you can stay a decent distance away from a zombie unlike other one handed melee weapons, which was one of the main reasons why I decided to leave the machete (the new animations made it that you had to be incredibly close to kill a zombie, and with a 2 shot kill potential, it's just not viable). Although the crowbar is the heaviest of all the one handed melee weapons (alongside with a maglite this severely impacts your carrying capacity) the range, damage, and amount of stamina it uses more than make up for it.
