Help Demo Brainstorm + His Personal Blog Thing

Demo's Longass Blog of Rambling in Which He Will at Some Point Ask for Feedback and/or Help with Brainstorming

PROLOGUE

So, as like, 4 of you know, I abandoned nms_grove a while ago because my hammer editor skills were actually not super 1337.

However, this doesn't mean I've stopped mapping, not by a long shot. My hammer editor skills have noticeably gotten way better (thanks to Dr Hammer, Billionlioe, Hypnosis, Maxx, and probably others)

and I've actually been silently working on a little something based off of a particular zombie-esque movie from 2010 since late March, which I have only hinted to very sparingly. I figured it'd be nice to let you guys see that I'm working on a neat objective map for you guys

That one's been going pretty slow, but well. I am not the fastest mapper in the world, so environment creation kinda takes a long time for me. Making one house can literally take me 3 days.

Now, I like to keep things mixed up. Let's say nmo_ogden gets a little stale to me at the moment, then what do I do? Simple, try to powermap a new objective level for release by Halloween time, obviously!

CHAPTER 1: NMO_SPOOKINGTON

(especially after you climb up all those stairs to take a good hard look at your destination)

You know those haunted house attractions in amusement parks? Not the monster-themed "fun houses", but the legit mansion-type attractions (think Disney World)?

Well, this is an objective map that takes place in one of those mansions, filled with fake scares as well as very real zombies. Been hauling ass to make this map, the idea's been floating around in my head for a while, but I didn't get the motivation to work on it until just the other day. So, let's help Demo out here, let's see if you guys can think of anything neat for this map.

Objectives, sights, features, scenery, who knows. Just shout things out, every little bit of brainstorming helps!

But seriously, need help brainstorming objective ideas.

You should be able to find radios playing ambient spooky-sounds and be able to turn them off. Perhaps something special will happen if you do... Or perhaps it'll just add to that "amusement-park" feel. And sections of the mansion devoted to behind-the-scenes things, like break-rooms/ operating rooms.

hey a good tip which alot of mappers dont use much is info_lighting its really handy entity when trying to fix lighting issues on props in certain areas, to place one about 64 units from the floor and about 64units away from them shelves and a bit closer to the fireplace theyll be slightly lit instead of being totally black or almost black, also reducing the light map scale to about 8 will sharpen the shadows some what, although these are ideas and stuff you could do further into the development of this

i cant help but think something is needed in that centre court yard area like a fountain with bences and a nice displacement cuvred path around it, but like i said before just keep it up and keep the motivation going and make it into something

(nmo_ogden) The Finley Funeral Home. I really, really, really wanted to make this building enterable so I could set up the coroner's room (I got really excited when I saw which models would fit the corpses in the movie perfectly), but tragically, the interior of the building is inconsistent with exterior. I'm assuming that they filmed the inside shots at an entirely different location, and as a result, I can't quite fit in the things I wanted to include.

The building just ain't big enough.

So I sorta totally canned the inside of Spookington, didn't like how it was coming out. But I kept the outside intact, just gonna remake/make the indoors part. And hopefully with a 7 month head start, I can get it ready for Halloween time.

Also, backpacks help corpses feel more like genuine dead survivors. With free shit!

Procrastinating on making the indoors by sprucing up the exterior. Had my girlfriend help me make some changes, since she noticed some discrepancies and such that I'd missed.
