[REL] nms_office_suite_v5

It's been a little while and a lot of work but I'm ready to make my map available to everyone.


Waves: 13
Zones: A, B, C, D, E
Supply Wave: 4
Runner Wave: 5
Child Wave: 7

Each zone in nms_office_suite has a purpose, meaning, if you lose a zone if will effect the environment, the difficulty, and in one case the players character.

Zone A: If you lose this zone zombies will begin coming from this zones location as the doors containing them have been breached. Once this zone is destroyed it no longer exists.

Zone B: If you lose Zone B security measures are enforced locking down the Kitchen/Supply Drop location, the vent conecting ZOne B and the adjacent office, as well as cutting off access to or from Zone B and C temporarily.
When Zone B is lost a code will appear on the monitor on the wall that players can relay to other players locked out from Zone B and C to enter into a keypad next to one of the doors.
If all players are locked in or out, the doors will open within a certain amount of time. This can be crucial to securing a zone if it is under attack and you are locked out from getting to it.

Zone C: Here is what happens when you lose Zone C:

The power can be restored via a backup generator room which houses a keypad. This room can be found through an entrance in the janitorial room that opens up on Zone C's deactivation.
On use the 2 possible codes are displayed on screen meaning there is a 50/50 chance you get the correct code to restore the power.
If you don't get the correct code that room is locked down and you're stuck as a fire breaks out in a room with a big explosive tank.
Not all hope is lost though as there is a keypad in the janitorial room that a team mate can use to free you before you die.
Though his/her chances are also only 50/50...
Both keypads are one time use keypads. And the 2 possible codes for each are displayed on screen to the user.

Zone B and C: If both B and C are lost the area that they're in is closed off and locked down.
Then it is filled with nerve gas killing off everything.
Once this happens this area is no longer accessible; it's locked down for good.

Zone D: When you lose Zone D propane tanks that are set around there explode and start a fire which blocks access to the Kitchen, (if needed) the back up generator room, and interfering with access to the roof.
This fire can be put out by pulling one of 2 fire alarms located in Zone C and the Kitchen.

Zone E: If this zone is lost the fuel tank which is Zone E explodes destroying the evac heli's landing pad.

There is 2 1/2 possible events that can take place*:

1: A civilian helicopter is in the area and has agreed to extract you. All you need to do is activate a beacon.
2: An air raid occurs.

1/2: A heli crashes through the roof.

*All are a better experience with the lights on.

On the resupply wave 2 new zombie spawn locations open up: 1 by zone C and one in the office adjacent to Zone B.
Keep in mind that there is a keypad in zone C to close the security door that opened on resupply for a short time.
The code will appear on the monitor to the left of the keypad.


The evacuation isn't typical either as the chopper has a malfunction and you must retrieve the welder to repair it, all the while zombies are incrementally spawning atop the roof.

**UPDATE**

Fixed:
-Zombies getting stuck at the Zone D corridor

-Fire wounding players at the roof access stairwell

-increased the brightness of the lighting on the roof

Added:

-Supply drop will now drop onto the roof after the roof is opened up

-Weapons and ammo on the roof

Modified:

-overall amount of zombies in the map. Statring wave is 25 zombies.

I've watched the screenshots, what a masterpiece, looks amazing, one of the best maps i've seen so far, still need to play it but by the screenshots that's what it looks like :D

When i hosted the server, i could say it was a success thought we failed to complete it most of the time but i can guarantee that the map is perfectly doable.I really loved your map. It was richly detailed and the randoms events were good and unexpected. Really loved the choice of music and sound effect when you lose Zone C.

Pros:

-Great attention to details.

-Great choice of music during key events.

-Challenging.

-Scripted events really added to the atmosphere.

Cons:

-Can be a bit confusing for newcomers.

-Some bugs, like one time the zeds coming from the corridor couldnt break the door, had to restart.

-Some areas are a bit too dark.

-People get hurt pretty bad when going to the roof by the stairs because the trigger_hurt is too close to the doors,perhaps making a small trigger_hurt brush with only NPC flag checked can resolve this

And that is pretty much it for now, keep up the great work dude, love your ideas.

In response to the Cons (in order):

It's expected. This type of map is a first of its kind or not common at all. I haven't seen a survival map that has the same functionality.

hmm I'll fix that soon

I'll leave room for flashlights and the zippo here

I made the fire extend to there to give players another reason to put the fire out. I could move it away from the door I suppose.

I have been anxiously waiting for comments like yours so thank you very much for taking the time to comment.

I put alot of time and work into it, plus it's the first map I have ever made so it's incredibly great to get your feedback and appreciation.

edit: In the mean time concerning the second con, you can shoot through the glass with the S&W686 or the Sako85.

That way you wont have to restart.

this map is awesome!!! I got killed by a helicopter than came out of the middle of nowhere XD

I love how unique this map is and how you have to defend all the spots so it's way more fun than most nms maps and more challenging. Keep up the good work!!! I hope I see more maps like this b/c atm I only really care about custom nmo maps

I was just scrolling through your screenshots. Do you do your own textures/models? Nice to see a change up from the stock.

I also like the event system you put into place. To me it seems to keep the players directed towards an objective other than just ammo whoring a NMS map. I haven't played a map with that many zones before so that looks interesting as well.

I wouldn't worry too much about the darkness because with players like me we'll just crank up the monitor/options to fix it if needed. Otherwise zippo and a flashlight will work. Ambiance is key.

The amount of work you must of put into just the layout alone is mindblowing.

How long did this take you to make?

No all textures and models are nmrih stock.

Yea lighting seems to be a big issue with players. I've gotten alot of complaints about it being too dark in the earlier versions, which it was because when I was making the map I had the brightness in the video options almost all the way up. Since version 4 I've put the brightness back to it's stock value and adjusted the lighting according to that.

I think its been about 2 months since I first released it. I had alot of help from Sgt. Jones in giving me an environment to test out every iteration of the map on the [AOC] servers which sped up the process of finding errors and fixing them and getting ingame player feedback. 5 versions in 2 months is evidence of that. lol

Thank you. Yeah I recently had the issue of mapping with my brightness all the way up for days only to realize while uploading screenshots that it was much darker.

Very annoying to fit everyone's darkness threshold, some levels just need to be dark for a nice zombie mood.

Either way that's really good for just 2 months.

Having a server running always helps, I actually paid for my own for a few months because I got sick of hijacking friends servers haha.

I guess I need to do some more exploring of NMRIH's texture/models. I haven't been doing a whole lot of texturing yet but that's good to know.

Best map me and my friends have played so far. The first playthrough we got to the roof and ran out of ammo on Wave 9, second playthrough the heli landed and we all died trying to get the welder :L

Are there any maps people know that are similar to this? With different points being lost will make something happen or a map that has random events like this one?

U cant be respawn on zone E, cuz helicopter crush wall and down on zone A (when this zone been lost)

You can't be respawn on the zone E (roof), if you don't lost the zone A (seemingly)
Helicopter programmed to break down the roof and fall on the zone A

It's 1 of 2/3 "random" things that can happen: A helicopter (the one in your ss) can randomly crash through the roof (you'll hear it coming). A bombing run is done on the city causing the building to shake and the lights to flicker if they're on (you haven't lost C or you lost C and found the room to enter a code to turn on the backup generator). Or a prompt appears telling you to activate a beacon for early extraction except the heli doesn't quite make it (it crashes through the roof).   

Last I played my map, the server was modded or configured in a certain way and it fucked it up.
