Hammer Error While Compiling

12 posts in this topic

When I try to compile my map (Which happens to be quite big, i'm not sure if this affects anything though) before it finishes compiling I get the error 'The Command Failed. Windows Reported The Error: "The System cannot find the file specified." Do you want to continue? (YES/NO). Now I checked the Hammer log and it turns out it can't find the (insert map name here).bsp, and this is because it hasn't compiled, but I thought to create the .bsp you had to compile your map?

Does the map have a major error in?

Have you put a displacement as a func_detail for example.

If you really think there is nothing wrong and hammer is just hating on you. Try renaming vmf file and recompiling.

Nope, there doesn't appear to be a major error. There is no displacement at all. I'll try renaming the vmf.

Edit: Tried renaming the VMF and had no luck. I did have those last two boxes checked but I unchecked them and now have a different error. The box saying the command failed no longer pops up, however looking in the log it says: Could not locate 'GameData' key in c:\program files (x86)\steam\steamapps\common\nmrih\nmrih\gameinfo.txt

Patching WVT material: maps/nms_lack_survival1/nature/blenddirtgrass001b_wvt_patch

I also noticed something odd which was that it was still trying to load the old name of the file. So the last name was 'nms_lack_survival' I renamed it 'nms_lack_survival1' and it was still searching for the first .bsp ..

Welcome to the great journey of mapping. You've taken the first of a thousand steps.

When i made my first map i didnt even know what leaks was, so my map was almost totally open lol, once some forum members explained me what leaks was and how bad they were i tried to never leave any hole in the early stages of a map, by using cordon, with leaks lighting and everything is gonna be messed up heavily but about a thing im 100% sure, leaks won't stop your map from compiling, compiled many times maps with leaks and they always compiled.

That problem you're saying is identical to a problem i had too, and that was an invalid solid, try to check the last brushes you made after the last successful compile and see if one of them is weird shaped, remove it and try to compile
