They're not going to. They plan to add zombie types if I recall (riot, cop, etc) and National Guard, but don't worry, no super-powered zombies straight out of cartoons.

our zombie virus is pretty grounded in reality. What I'm upset about is the fact that we lack support in the character department to fully realize the characteristics of our zombie virus, and to complete things like crawlers and National Guard zombies.

This depends on your instance of "Special Infected". I would like more zombie variation, but nothing that exceeds outside the realm of realism (For a zombie game). For example, I'm all for armored zombies, or zombies that do more damage, or take less damage due to who they were before they died. There's also crawling zombies, ex-survivors, etc that could all provided needed variation in the gameplay.

Right now we only have, at most, 6 zombie types. I'm almost certain 2 of those are just variants of the same one, just with slightly faster/slower speeds. so that just leaves your walkers, runners, children, fire-runners, and the rare sleeper (Fake death zombie).

I'd also like boss zombies. Perhaps VIZs that are hard as nails, faster, stronger and smarter than the average brood, and carry mission-vital items. You know, like perhaps a beefy logging foreman or a decked-out SWAT commander. Something like that. But even that idea's more of a "distant-future" concept.

I have some suggestions for zombie types to add:

Smoker:

A zombified corpse of a person who, in life, had heavy smoking habit.

Boomer:

A zombie that, while they were still human, was approximately 50-70 years old. We can tell by the boat parked in front of the house we find them in that they enjoyed peak wage rates in their life in the post- World War 2 era.

Hunter:

A zombie who, while alive, enjoyed trapping and shooting animals for sport. Perhaps they are wearing realtree patterned clothing and have a matching realtree wallet and tuxedo for special occasions.

Witch:

Not even Ann Coulter survived the zombie apocalypse.

Obese zombies, we know that those fatties didn't out run the shufflers let alone the runners.

I second these ideas.

Pure genius.

Let me add some more:

Charger: Zombified American football player.

Jockey: A homunculus, who before the outbreak, raced horses.

Spitter: A very, very rude zombie, who perhaps once had a chewing tobacco addiction. No one's going to miss them.

I think the game should just stay still with the grounded virus idea and no mutations (will there be mutations in reality?). Even though there are mutations with the virus, the change wouldn't be like the "special" zombies we encounter and mentioned in this very thread before. The zombies should be restricted to walkers and runners. Although there could be a few logical special infected like the National Guard zombie were they're using armour, SWAT zombies and maybe even fat zombies. Aside from that there shouldn't be anymore "special" zombies or it'll just be another L4D with less bullets and more melee which completely makes this game unbeatable and loose it's unique gameplay.

P.S. I disagree with Mr. Boss Zombie idea if the boss zombie is very different (I meant Borderlands different) then the other zombie characteristics (other than that I'm good)

There's a little flash game series called 'The Last Stand.' I rather like how the dev did his zombie variety. Rather than make the zombies mutated, he just made them different people which had different things happen to them.

One of the first varieties of zombie had limbs missing and melee weapons just sticking out of them, meaning you'd take a ton of damage if one ran into you (or more accurately your survivors would die very fast.) Some had weapons from their last life clutched in their hands, which made them even deadlier.

Some just had nearly broken necks and awkwardly hanging heads to make accuracy more difficult, others wore hard-hats or helmets to make it hard to make a solid headshot, since you had to aim lower. Fat zombies were slower and took more damage to kill since body shots worked in TLS. All of this fits in with military and SWAT wearing armor, doesn't require mutation and adds a lot of variety and difficulty. Plus, zombies with weapons are a classic Romero thing.

I'd like a zombie with a bunch of barbed wire stuck to them.

Just saying.

You know, I would like if let's say, 1 out of every 200-300 zombies had a knife sticking in them, or machete, something.

Would also be a neat way to give you weapons if you could take them after you killed the zedsky.

DUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUDE. I played Last Stand 1, 2 and Union City. I used to play the MMO Dead Zone but got bored and left the account unopened for months until now. I mostly understand the zombies and yes that is a pretty amazing game. Also it work so well without them mutations...

I'd love that idea. And if we get too close, we'll receive damage and maybe bleed... Who knows that a zombie horde was trying to overrun a fort and got tangled up in a barb wire?

That's more or less the idea: A zombie gets entangled in some barbed wire (Which is rather plentiful in certain maps) and as a result their chance to inflict bleed is greatly increased. It would serve the duel purpose of giving bandages some more prominence as well. I also think damaged received while bleeding should be increased, but that's a different thought.

I agree doc.

It's funny how this thread is first started off as a "no special zombie" thread and ends up as a discussion of non-mutational "special zombie" ideas.

I support crawlers. They're the living dead. They could operate without an active heart, I'm sure loss of rotten blood would not kill them (or probably will since the brain still needs blood to survive).

How do zombies operate? That is the big question...

Now, the real question is if crawlers are a good idea or not, lol.

Mate, it's been bugging me for a while, but I just wanted to say; Your blasted username and your display pic keep on making me crave going out and stuffing my face with some delicious Nigiri and Maki rolls.

I understand this sentiment! Luckily I live proximate to a place that serves top-notch all you can devour sushi six days a week for $20.

Ah, indeed it has. Anyway I think they can make different and unique zombies without making people see them as 'special infected.'

There is "special" infected... Runners and Children Zombies. All because its not like "Left 4 Dead" doesn't mean it has special infected. Plus their adding more zombie types that are REALISTIC. A super-bunked up muscle zombie is not realistic.

How about things and people you would find in an urban disaster?

Fireman shambler, dragging the clasic Fire axe and swinging at you if you get close instead of trying to hug you.

Cop in uniform shooting randomly at people with a handgun or carrying a Baton / Tonfa.

Paramedic / Docter / Nurse running around with a Portable Defib / Syringe/ Bone Saw.

Crazed Survivers trying to kill you with all the weapons. (Would be interesting to see the zombies chomping them as well.)
