Series of Maps with a storyline.

11 posts in this topic

Have a series of maps that are connected to one-another via a storyline, i.e: Finding a cure.
The series of maps could be hosted as an event on servers to avoid breaking the storyline.

To connect the maps visually giving the player the idea that they are connected you'd build the beginning of the next map in the previous map, making the extraction zone the spawn position on the next map (players will spawn on the next map where they were "extracted" from in the previous map).

What do you guys think?

I think the chief problem is that NMRIH doesn't support level transitioning at this time, even if changelevel is used, your equipment isn't preserved. But the way you've put it I think it MAY work, I mean as 2 maps that have a plot connection. As it is I am working on a survival map that is set a little after nmo_zephyr, so it would be nice to have those two lined up consecutively.

It's a good idea. I have thought the same too but we have to remind ourselves that the game is still in its infancy stage and it's only a matter of time that more nmo maps come out. We just need to be patient.

Not only is this how growth happens, it's time for it to grow.

edit: clarity and spelling

huh I didn't even think of the equipment, that would be kind of a break in the illusion.

Damnit.

That's awesome! Any idea on how you'd tie them together?

Have the end of Zephyr as a backdrop or something?

Or is it a secret? A surprise? ....maybe? : D

Nah, the only connection is that the train consist from zephyr is there; Disappointing I know. The engineer will probably be spouting crap too, it would be nice to change the NG lines with ones from the engineer, that would make the connection stronger even.

I made the map considering all the limitations of NMRIH when it comes to map transitions. i.e doesnt support them lol.

Its all very much doable with NMRiH as it is currently. Just ant nobody got time for that.

use "point_servercommand"

once map is complete fire changelevel command.

Sounds like a great idea.

Someone needs to recreate the Kardashians house and make skins of Kanye West and all of them walking around zombies, you can go shoot. I'm kidding. Or am I?

I would like the game developers to release continuing story maps... once a time it doesnt have to be every week or two... just when they finish them. Telling a story of the survivors. Imagine a TV series or a comics. Thats what I mean.

There really isn't a story that anchors it down. It just seems to be "there's zombies; shoot em".

I'm not criticizing the game nor the developers. I love this game.

If there were a story aspect to it I think it would not only garnish more players but also keep people playing.

It doesn't have to be all about a storyline just some maps or servers that offer it, like another gamemode.

A story game mode.

I know we took the time to write out how the world's slowly collapsing from the zombie threat, most of that info's presented through media images and sound clips we occasionally release out on our site/on ModDB

In game wise most of the maps we have are set in their own self contained scenarios, but they do have some story details that help connect them to the overall setting. It's just really indirect and not in your face. If you watched LOST it's sort of like that (everyone's on some weird ass island, but there are some details that hint at something greater)

I personally wouldn't mind having a dedicated campaign mode though. Having smaller more straightforward maps interconnected with one another where your stats and inventory are saved when you head into the next level (do you really want to waste all your ammo in the first part, because maybe the second part of the campaign you're in has no supplies) sounds like a blast to play through.
