Your texture choices for those indoor areas don't look good. If you are going for an office look choose some plaster wall textures. As for the hospital bed. Maybe some tiles!

Well, I've seen worse first maps than this. If I may make a suggestions, refrain from using that particular brick texture. It's the first one in the texture selection que and it always brings with it an air of "This is my first map" or "I made this hollowed block in 5 minutes." Your displacements appear really wonky, but I'm guessing that's something that's ironed out with practice. Practice, and this video:

Also, and I only say this because it's a mistake most new mappers make, ensure that you are using the "nodraw" texture on all faces of a brush the player cannot see. It will help greatly with the optimization of your levels.

And remember, if you cannot decide what texture to use, you should always default to development textures, try typing "measure" or "reflect" into the texture que to get a few good ones. These can also help with your scaling.

Finally: don't use white lights. I know, you think it would give the setting a "sterile" or "artificial" look, but really it just makes everything look rubbish. I'd try a slight bluish hint, and dim the brightness a bit.

i call this a true garbage map

Good to see you back from the dead.

But really, has anyone created a first map that wasn't garbage? If so, I'd like to meet that person, so I can shake their hand and then slap them across the face.

Glad to see more people trying their hand at mapping for this mod. Definitely do take on board the constructive criticism that people provide. If you can implement suggestions and learn from some of the talented mappers around you may go on to make some truly great stuff.

For someone with no prior experience, that's quite good. Your first screenshot in particular looks rather realistic. However, the rest of the map does require quite a bit of work. Follow some of the suggestions from thegregster101 and DrHammer and keep us updated on the changes you have made. Don't be discouraged! One can only improve by doing and practising. I'm glad to see new mappers making a contribution. Thanks for sharing!

Hmmm, you have a very strong spacial awareness, thats a good thing to cultivate man. Were i you i would spend your next learning period on familiarising yourself with lighting ents and how you make them dance, so to speak, before going further though i would pay close attention to previous comments, no matter how harsh it may seem, don't be fooled everyone wants mappers to get better.

My main point use real world reference, get a location in mind and shamelessly plunder google images, if you can get normal pics and floor plans, sounds obvious but do it, the difference is huge.

Welcome aboard old bean!
