'Dynamic' Survival Mode

5 posts in this topic

Hey I have been thinking of a cool mode/map and such that is like survival mode but doesn't pit you to 1 area.

The best way I can explain this is probably by giving an example-

Take Chinatown and say it was survival mode but the map was divided into sections. You spawn in 1 section where you can sorta barricade up if you wish similar to survival. examples of entrance points windows, loading bays, (or if you're outside- apartments, storefronts, etc.)

.if you begin to get overrun

(my example is something like when zombies enter the zone an option comes up on a door(or doors) to retreat to another section/get to a new area)

The reason is so that players wouldn't just open a door to the new area and waste the strategic value/purpose

worst example map

When you gain access to this new area however, you can be smart and use as a 2nd wind by scavenging around for supplies, and things.

Every time you open a certain area it triggers zombies to spawn there, but that doesn't mean the old area won't be safe

ROUNDS

Instead of essentially killing zombies to end a round, rounds work in 'nights'. Basically this means that you have to kill a certain amount of zombies (hidden) to end a round. The faster and more zombies you're killing the earlier the round will end. Time flies when your having fun!

SUPPLY DROPS

Supply drops in this mode work with the the rounds.

You always spawn with 1 flare gun in a designated area with the according rounds/map

If a maps survival time is 3 days or (12 rounds) you spawn with 3 flare rounds. However, it is only required to spawn 1 ammo and 1 flare gun in the spawn area, the rest can be placed around the map.

every 4 rounds is 'daylight' or 1 full day./a 30s-1:00m break where players can recoup, rebuild, and shoot off the flare gun for supply drops. It would be nice to restrict the flare gun ammo from spawning in the supply drop.

lts late goin to bed!

i basically like ur ideas and i bleive there is alot much more to do with the nms-setup,what i mean is very similar to ur stuff maybe something like defend the horde at the mainentrence, after that, doors are opening and u have to go up on the roof and snipe some zombies to protect the gunstore on the other side of the street or something like that ,also riddles and objectives could be possible even if they are optional

Yea, new gamemodes need to be looked at. I could see this a more "hardcore" version of survival, where you have to be thinking all the time. Another bonus is that you won't go through the bullets as quickly. I've played many rounds where people will waste the ammo quickly and then wonder why they can only go through a few waves.

I like the idea of new survival game types. Would like to hear of its feasibility from a dev.

Whilst dicking around in one of my maps I thought it'd be kind of cool if the player could choose on the fly which area was the 'base' but I imagine it's due to limitations with the Zombies waypointing and stuff that causes this kind of thing to be unfeasible, at the very least with the way things currently work. Maps would also need to be designed quite diffrently to incorporate this aswell.

What I was thinking:

One defendable zone that can be moved to other pre-selected places within the map should the players choose (they can't move this area whilst Zombies are in it to prevent people from just setting up a new one when about to be overrun)

new defences can be placed in said area's when players gather enough 'supplies' (like those wooden barricades that the barricade boards go across) these would appear/could be chosen when enough supplies were gathered (Models that would appear in pre-selected places like doorways in the zones) this would mean that players would be invested in the area's they were defending, as if they did decide to move it somewhere else, they'd have build that area up from scratch.

But seeing as there's probably no way round the waypointing issue and that Survival mode is fairly intensive in terms of performance as it is, this probably can't be done.
