42 posts in this topic

The Big 3

FN FAL (and civilian variants)

Pros:

- fairly common with civilians

- fairly common in former military service

- C1A1 is able to be loaded with stripper clips, for more variety

- Unique sight picture and form factor relative to other guns in NMRIH

Cons:
- Large standard magazine size (20 rounds) makes it hard to balance

- Common throughout other games

G3, HK91, SR-9, etc.

Pros:

- fairly common with civilians

- fairly common in former military service

Cons:
- Large standard magazine size (20 rounds) makes it hard to balance

- Common throughout other games

- Similar sight picture and animations to MP5 already in NMRIH, bad for gun variety

M14, M1A, Socom-16

Pros:

- fairly common with civilians

- fairly common in former military service

- possible for smaller magazines (10 rounds) for easier balance

- unique form factor and sight picture

Cons:

- Common throughout other games if using standard variants

More Obscure Grannies

SIG 510-4

Pros:

- Unique as hell

- Interesting model, sight picture

- Low rate of fire in full auto

Cons:

- 20+ round magazine

- Not very common

- Only military variants

FN-49

Pros:

- Semi-auto only

- interesting model, sight picture

- stripper clips

- small magazine

Cons:

- Not very common

AR-10

Pros:

- Interesting model

- Old school AR goodness

Cons:

- Rare (maxx says not so rare)

- 20 round magazine

- perhaps TOO retro?

Young Guns

Saiga .308

Pros:

- Popular-ish in the US

- Variable magazine size, can be smaller and still exist commonly

- Semi auto only

Cons

- It's based on an AK reciever

- perhaps too similar to SKS in some aspects

- could be considered to be ugly

SCAR 17S

Pros:

- Modern looking while being different than the M16

- Variety of magazines

- Semi-auto only

Cons:

- In a lot of other games

- Standard mag is 20 rounds

- Looks military, while being civilian (because it is converted military, duh)

HK417

Pros:

- Modern looking while being different than the M16

- It's an HK in the modern series

Cons:

- In a lot of other games

- Standard mag is 20 rounds

- Full auto possible

Remington Model 750

Pros:

- Civilian hunting rifle in the spirit of the X3

- Same mag capacity as the Sako

- Unique

Cons:

- Perhaps too many sporting firearms?

- Not much different than sako in looks as well, people might get confused.

Galil ACE 52

Pros:

- Interesting and distinct looks

Cons:

- It's based on an AK

- Rare, not adopted by any countries

PSL

Pros:

- Interesting looks, it's like a dragunov that's not a dragunov

- Small magazines

Cons:

- It's based on an AK

Other Possibilities

Ishapore 2A1

Pros:

- Unique, a bolt-action that feeds from stripper clips

- Very fast cycle time

- Historical

- Could be common due to price

Cons:

- It's not a semi-auto

Would be nice a benelli m4 and/or m3 to this mod. or a standard M4A1 no sigths. maybe, in someplace we could find some equipment for them, I don't know, like, a C-mag, or scopes etc.

yeah, the SKS currently in game uses ammunition loading devices called stripper clips, I don't see what's so funny about it.

weapon attachments are stupid, you can't just place a sight on a rifle, you have to zero it in and all that.

cmag is absolutely stupid given current ammo capacities, you can hold 120 rounds in your inventory assuming you're just carrying a M16A4 and nothing else but ammo.

why have an M1014? it would just be a slightly different X3

I'd rather have a new weapon in an entirely different category and ammo type instead of another semi-automatic shotgun.

I find those Ishapore's look a bit weird, i'd much prefer a Jungle carbine:

Jungle_Carbine.jpg

Handy, pointable, accurate and capable of having a bayonet mounted to it. They're not particularly rare so would be a plausible addition.

different ammo type, and I'm pretty sure M44 Mosin carbines are more common if we want to add a new ammo type for a bolt rifle.

Mosins are quite common-place in games and as I say these aren't museum pieces or anything. Seeing as they opted for a VZ.58 over any AK variant, a jungle carbine would also be something a bit different and a nice addition.

As for the ammo, everyone loves .303 'British' don't they?

not in modern games, and the only game with a M44 off the top of my head is red orchestra 1.

and I'm pretty sure the CZ 858 was because maxx hates aks.

and yeah, .303 british is pretty rare

costs significantly more per round than spam cans of 7.62x54R

(that could be the special for the mosin, massive amounts of ammo in 1 box)

I chose the 858 because: one of my best friends has one. I don't like AK's and seeing them in every single game. I wanted something unique.

I would love to implement a Mosin, or a jungle carbine of any kind, or a .303 (like my own Lee Enfield No.4 Mk.1) but as most of you know we are avoiding adding new ammo types for the time being. I want to add more weapon variation using existing ammo types before making new ones.

I also would love to implement a Garand, Stuka, but the same thing applies... at least for the time being.

Awesome.

A Jungle Carbine would be fairly unique, don't think i've ever seen one in a game, not to mention they're quite aesthetically pleasing.

I'm actually quite fond of bolt action carbines, very maneuverable and easy to aquire targets with:

Mauser-Columbian-A122025.jpg

Columbian mausers (tend to be re-chambered in 30-06) are also fairly cool rifles, and although you see mauser 98's quite frequently in games, you don't tend to see these.

A powerful bolt action possibly with a bayonet attatched would be a good addition to NMRIH.

I want a Ghillie Sniper silenced :D

because zombies totally hunt by sight... not.

also given the close range combat in nmrih wouldn't iron sights be a blessing?

Would love the No. 4 enfield, or the 'jungle carbine' but it's been said- 303 british is the territory of reloaders or people willing to put down $1/1 round. SKS kinda satisfies my lust for old woodens surplus rifles.

Mosin 91/30's are super common in the US, even moreso than the SKS due to cost. I realize you'd have to add the 7.62 x 54 rounds, so I understand why the SKS over the mosin: 7.62 x 39 for the SKS can also be used in AK variants- opening the doors to future implementations.

Don't forget the Israelis converted a whole mess of K98k's to 7.62 in the post war period : P

Americans complaining about the price of ammo always irks me, the same ammo costs so much more over here it's extortionate.

I don't think people should get so hung up on realism, it's really not beyond the realms of possibility there'd be an Enfield no.4 or Jungle carbine with ammo, and as I say it'd be a unique and interesting addition. If you're going to be that pedantic about realism, where are all the fully automatic MAC-11's and MP5's coming from?

And before someone tries to counter that with 'it's not beyond the realms of possibility there'd be insertrareasfuckgunhere' Enfields aren't all that uncommon and there'd be ammo for them. I mean, they still find them in Afghanistan and Iraq with ammo to boot so it's really not all that out there for them to be included when the game's set in a country where both the gun and ammo are practically readily available over the counter.

Also, from a gameplay perspective, fast bolting combined with 10 round capacity and bayonet would probably make it a weapon people actually want to find, though I will concede that the M44 makes a bit more sense there because they all come with folding bayonets as part of the gun.

Since bolt actions are also up for grabs, what about an FR-8? It's pretty unique. Another good one off the top of my head is an Israeli Mauser, converted to .308 from 8mm. Or, an M1916 Spanish Short Mauser, also converted to .308.

There do exist factory converted Enfield No.4 Rifles, I believe in the UK they are designated the L8A1 Reserve Rifle in .308/7,62 NATO

Also, might I suggest the Remington R25, a .308 caliber hunting rifle based on the AR-10/AR-15 platform. Holds 5 rounds and is normally equipped with a scope as it lacks sights by default:

I would classify that under AR10

The R25 is definitely an AR10.

If I were to include an AR10 it would be based on my friend's personal AR-10 (Magpul, Daniel Defense, Armalite, Trijicon parts)

Keep the .308 suggestions coming, guys! It won't be in 1.07 but it will be in after that!
